Description: Very traditional village pub on the northern edge of the city of Plymouth convenient to a large local community but much used by travellers on their way back from the rural hinterland and especially Dartmoor. Fair good value selection of mid to low priced traditional pub food in a classic setting. Well worth a Tripadvisor entry.

“Good value local pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

The lopes is a nice place to eat. The menu is very substantial and great value for money. The pub itself has two areas a bar area and a restaurant area. The restaurant is popular and the food is good quality. The pub often has live music on a Friday evening which is very popular with all the locals.

“Birthday celebration meal.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Taken here by our son and partner as they have enjoyed eating here before. Chicken in bun and scampi meals were delicious, and sizzling fajitas looked good and were very tasty too.Very cold and wet night but we were cheerfully greeted and service was good., meals served in reasonable time.

“Pub Food done well”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013 via mobile

Have eaten here several times over the past few months after re-discovering it after several years.
The staff are always friendly and the pub is clean and tidy.
The ales are served at the right temperature and the beer is refreshingly cold.
The menu is simple pub food.....but done well.
So many places try and give fancy fare and get it wrong. Not here. Good pub staples such as fish and chips, pie of the day, chilli, all done really well.
Piping hot, very tasty and generous portions.

“Hummer Happiness”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

The warm, welcome and friendly service compensates for the lack of atmosphere and slightly tired feeling of the restaurant area. The menu is displayed on large wall-encompassing blackboards and prices are pretty average. Portions are generous and the incredible 1lb Hummer burger was almost a match for my teenage son - almost! My steak with stilton sauce, although tasty, was unfortunately far less rare than the points being scored by England in the six nations rugby match against Wales, showing on a large screen further down the room! We were a large group and nobody ordered dessert - perhaps we were all satisfied - or perhaps it was because the pudding selection was very limited and uninspiring. Overall, we were happy with the meal, but the toilets - OMG - worse than the outside lavvies in my Victorian primary school c 1968! Definite room for improvement here. So a lick of paint, an injection of atmosphere and this will be a good place to be - and certainly better than Cardiff when England have just been trounced 30-3.....

“Not made to feel welcome”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I hadn't been to the Lopes for a number of years, but decided to give it a go recently. I went with a couple of friends on our motorbikes, we were dressed in are normal kit to keep warm , dry and safe. Although it was busy, the staff were working through the people waiting, both me and me friends were passed by 3 times before being served, even though we were clearly before the other customers, when we were served , the service was curt to say the least. To be frank i wouldn't normally put up with that sort of thing for a second, but as it was raining and my friends had made a considerable journey to visit, we let it go. We ordered food which when it eventually arrived, again after others meals who had ordered after us, was ok and well presented and probably good value. But the whole thing was tainted from what was bad customer service, and judgemental staff. Just to let the Lopes staff know that between the 3 of us we earn just over £100K, all of us have degrees and that they should not judge people on looks, ever!!!
