Husband and I stayed for 3 nights in June, Saturday to Tuesday.
Underground parking costs only £3.50 a stay, but is very tight to negotiate with a long car (2-year-old Passat). We dented and scraped the passenger side on one of the corners, and will now have the repair cost to add onto our weekend break!

Location – very hard to reach by car! We drove round and round the centre trying to negotiate the pedestrian zones and one-way streets and eventually called them for street-by-street directions. Once you have parked however, location is ideal. 5 minutes’ walk to shopping centre and 10 minutes’ walk to Barbican area with small shops, bars, restaurants and marina. (Recommend Zucca! and The Fish Market.)
Staff in reception were pleasant and professional, but some of breakfast staff less so.
Room – On 5th floor, overlooking the park. Large room with 2 queen beds, clean and fairly modern. Trouser press and tea-making. Cookies and drinks replaced every day.
Bathroom - decent size and clean. Nice thick towels, shampoo and shower gel replaced every day.
Pool - quite nice, although one end incredibly shallow, and water a bit chilly. Pleasing restrictions on use by children. Good sauna and steam room, but no jacuzzi.

Breakfast - very good on the Sunday, with a choice of well-cooked and under-cooked eggs, bacon, sausages, etc. Not so good the other 2 days. No breads, except toast which has gone cold by the time you are ready to eat it! Pastries' tray always almost empty, and not particularly good. Nice restaurant though, on 11th floor overlooking the bay.

All in all, I would recommend the hotel, for the location, but definitely wouldn’t take a long car there again.

We went for a two night stay as part of a group of 26. Booking in was quick as all our keys were in envelopes and we just gave our name and were given the envelopes. The room was big but not clean, there was mould behind the bath taps and around the tiles, and the shower only just warm, the carpet in the bedroom was marked and had not and was not hovered while we were there. Under the bed there was fluff and dust on the casters, so it was obvious that it had not been cleaned under for some time. The corridor had crisp on the carpet which stayed there throughout our stay and a glass outside one of the rooms remained there for over 24 hours.

The food wasn’t any better, at breakfast the tea and toast were severed at the table; we had to ask for butter and milk. Then we had to queue for the cooked part which was keep under lights and had dried up, all except for the eggs and we had to ask for them to be changed as they were still raw. The evening meal wasn’t any better, starter served at the table, main meal a carvery style, which again there was a huge queue for. As there was no one carving the meat, again the vegetables were under lights and only just warm and not a very wide choice. The sweet and coffee were severed at the table at the same time. All in all not good service at all.

The only good point I could find in this hotel was the fact that is on the Hoe.

Stayed here many times in the past, and have long thought it quite shabby . But the bedrooms have certainly been upgraded for 2008 - mine was a huge room, clean, spacious, tidy - with an enormous bathroom, though with a tiny bath that would not hold water very well! Reception and restaurant unchanged and still rather dreary. I can't find myself raving about it, but nor is it dreadful. It is .... OK.

I use tripadvisor regularly, but I've never posted before so I though I should comment on this hotel which I stayed in 4 days a week for 14 months (!!!) whilst on business. Here are my thoughs...

Location - For Plymouth it's actually ideal. 2 minutes walk from the Barbican and it's nice bars and restaurants with views over the coast from the restaurant upstairs which are amazing on a sunny day.

Staff - I found everyone from the bar staff, reception, to room service and restaurant staff to all be friendly and helpful. A couple of the girls in the restaurant at night can seem a bit 'cold', but I put that down to translation from Polish to English.

Rooms - They are all pretty large and have had a refurb in the last few years, however I doubt you'll be blown away. I'd call them clean and 'fairly' modern. Unless you get an upgrade room (by paying or Priority Club upgrade) you wont get an iron or mini bar. If you call at 7am, wanting to iron a shirt before leaving at 8am forget it. It can take anywhere from 30mins to several hours as they are in short supply. I argued with them often about this. The best plan is to ask for one the night before.

Gym - The equipment is decent enough but is in short supply. A handfull on weights machines, a couple of free weights benches and some cardio machines. Can get overcrowded at times due to its small size. Realistically only one person can get near the free weights at a time, which annoyed me.

Bathrooms - These vary widely from horrible little ones with mini baths you can only really use for showering, to larger nicely refurbed ones with good size baths.

Parking - It costs £3.50 a stay, however it is safe. The underground car park isn't the easiest to negotiate though.

Food - In the restaurant it's actually pretty good at night, however it's usually pretty quiet in there. For breakfast it's ok with decent service, however they have the worst sausages I've eaten. Room service food generally isn't great. The best things on that menu are the burgers, and I'm not a burger person.

Overall it's a decent enough hotel (above average for Plymouth), however nothing about it is amazing. I'd recommend it in Plymouth over most hotels in the city for the location, cleanliness, and added bonus of Priority club points.

“Worth a Try”

Booked in for 1 night. Do not put postcode into a Sat Nav. as it will take you into Armada Way which ends in a Pedestrian Precinct.

We had to ask a 'Friendly Traffic Warden' for directions. Head towards The Hoe and you can't miss it.

Arrived at the front of the Hotel and we saw the Concierge and asked about car parking facility. He told us to do a left and a left again and he would be waiting for us.

30 seconds later we entered the road to the car park entry and he was at the entrance beckoning us in. How he got there so quickly I don't know. Maybe he had a TWIN ???

He then ran in front of the car all the way to the basement car park and showed me an allocated bay not far from the EXIT.

The car park is underground and has some narrow twists and turns, but go slowly and you should be OK.

The Concierge waited until we parked, took the luggage, escorted to reception, waited until checked in, then guided to room and showed the room facilities, when finally he indicated to contact him if anything else was required.

All in all this is what a Concierge is all about. Above and beyond the call of duty. Full marks for his attention.

Reception staff very friendly also.

The room was palatial all that you needed. Only let down by dirty windows and some mould to the bathroom tiles and bath sealant.

Good housekeeping with some bleach could get rid of this.

Cannot comment on the restaurant for Evening dining, but the Breakfast service was good. Self service style and considering the hotel was very busy, the quality was good and the table staff who served Tea/Coffee and toast were efficient.

Pent House Bar was OK and prices reasonable but the staff on duty at the time appeared a little 'frosty' possibly because they were not British.

All in all good value for money, some others in my party stayed for 3 nights on a buy 2 get a 3rd free.

Good location, 2 mins from The Hoe.

Just need to get rid of a couple of rough edges and it would be A1.

If you need a taxi, the hotel can recommend. Our party used 3 cabs and to and from our evening venue we had the cab waiting for us within 10 mins. of making the phone call.
