“Very run down, old and dirty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

Plymouth City Council have really let it slide here. Plymouth city centre is very dissapointing and not worth visiting. Parking costs £1.40 an hour, lots of empty shops and no big names anymore. Lots of people sat around drinking and is not very pleasant. It has lost its vibrant energy and they have made it congested. It is such a shame and the Pannier market is very run down and the bottom of the town is just boring.

“Sad drab hopeless place.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

I am sure that the are a handful of stalls in here that might hold their own in a good traditional or modern market. But taken as a whole the place is miserable, down at heel, selling almost anything of interest or use. Beats me why Plymouth doesn't have a thriving produce market. The fish section here is so inexplicably inadequate it almost defies believe. Is the city a major national fishing port or not?

“They try but don't succeed.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

A thoroughly depressing post war indoor market with many stalls but almost nothing of interest. There is no doubt that efforts have been made and a bit of cash spent over the last decade or so, to resurrect this drab and uninviting space. It's marooned at the sad emptier and poorer end of town. It seems to have become detached from what was once an impressive and busy farmers market. These days it's like an overgrown flea market with a few added idiosyncratic stalls see the effort by this running a nut stall and a coloured crystal place. Not really enough to attract the interest and bustle to rekindle interest from locals and visitors to come. It doesn't cut the mustard. There are a few recent cafe type stalls on the ground floor, better in some cases from the purpose built long established cafes on the balcony. The fish market is perhaps the saddest and most depressing area. The few stalls taken together offer less than you would these days find in an average Waitrose or even Morrisons and are certainly less inviting.

“GREAT PLACE FOR UNUSUAL GIFTS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Great market, full of atmosphere and friendly traders.
You can buy anything here, from one sausage to one button!
Food, clothes, housewares, gifts, dolls house bits, material, wool, new and second hand goods. Cafes (upstairs, now suitable for disabled, but there is a great coffee shop on ground floor). There are also take away food shops from Thai, to Chilli, cakes, pasties, seafood.
I love it here, I love hearing the stall holders banter with each other and the customers!

“The Nuthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Amazing fairly new stall in market selling a wide range of loose dried fruits and nuts and chocolate covered fruits and nuts. They also sell jams, chutneys and honey, as well as some herbs and spices. This stall has wonderful friendly staff who are always helpful and knowledgeable about their products. They will let you try a sample for free! But the best reason to visit them is that their products are a healthier option than other snack foods, like sweets and crisps, which means that you feel less guilty about snacking in the first place! The other reason to visit is their prices, which are extremely low for the stock they are selling. I love this stall!
