“Excellent all round”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013 via mobile

From the moment we walked through the doors right up until when we left, the pace, quality and sincerity of the service couldn't be faulted. Staff were eager to please and fast but without being intrusively attentive and without creating a sense of being rushed.

I'm no expert on Indian food but I certainly couldn't fault the quality or quantity of what was served. The menu seemed comprehensive to me although my brother, a regular at Peterborough's Taj Mahal restaurant said it was a little less extensive than theirs.

On ambience, it is a small, fairly intimate restaurant although seating is comfortable and lighting & soft furnishings added to a warm, cosey feel. There is a medium-sized flat-panel TV screen on the wall and volume was turned to a low-moderate level. This actually contributed positively to the ambience as it was showing Bollywood films/trailors.

On pricing, this restaurant is probably average but considering the quality of service and food, it's really very good indeed.

I have seldom been disappointed by any Indian restaurant but I am still always delighted by good service and appalled by complacent service. I make no apologies for not finding any negatives at the Eastern Eye; I whole-heartedly recommend this restaurant.

“Good food, cramped restaurant that looks like American diner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

Can't fault the food here, it was very good. The ambiance of the place is not great however. There are pink and blue neon lights all over the place and American diner style booths. The tables are jammed in very close together so it's not a very intimate dining experience. The service was pretty good so overall a nice meal in a quirky setting.

“indian cooking as it should be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

we were looking for a restaurant close to the hotel, as we didn't want to eat there. the eastern eye qualified, and we made reservations.
we were not disappointed! everyone in our party of 6 enjoyed their meals thoroughly - from very hot to rather mild, everything very tasty and well prepared and served. the service was very friendly and attentive, and the indian beer comes in large-quantity bottle ! what more does one want?
should we ever be back in plymouth, the eastern eye will see us again !

“Not as good as expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

We have visited the Eastern Eye on many occasions previously and always found the food very good . However we were quite dissappointed with last nights offering . On previous occasions I have had a good duck curry and my friend a very tasty lamb curry - however there appears to have been a menu change and neither dishes were on the new menu . After speaking to the waiter we ordered similar dishes which were ok but not as good the ones we had before . The Butterfly prawn starter was also not as nice as on other occasions .and we wondered if there has been a change of chef . The service was rushed and rather indifferent and we didnt feel terribly welcome or comfortable as it was busy and I think they wanted a quick turnover. So I think we will be visiting one of the many other Indian restaurants in the area in future .
