“Not what I was expecting”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012

Ate here Saturday 3rd March 2012 and was very disappointed. It had been recommended by my daughter and she was embarassed at the end of the meal. Very greasy with 1 dish having poor quality chicken and 1 dish quite watery. It's a strange set up above a pub and I'm sure there must be better Thai restaurants in the city.
Soup to start was good along with one of the Thai curries.
Shame really I was expecting more.

“Lovely Thai food above relaxed real ale pub.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2012

There is a fair bit of pushy campaigning and advertising by other Thai restaurants in Plymouth. Frankly I doubt there is any first rate Thai cuisine in the city but there is passable effort at various places. We have used the Thai on the Park a couple of times and have enjoyed the food on the service. It is not poor, it is very good but the presentation is a bit homely and can come as a surprise if you are not ready for it. This is not a pushy swanky place but a friendly well run casual set up selling very good Thai food and we think better for a meal with friends and family than the other options. Prices are reasonable and a well constructed and varied menu. We nave noticed an inclination among local reviewers to low score and criticise restaurants that are not glitzy modern and in your face or faux up market. Fortunately most Tripadvisor follow the spirit of the site and mark up places that sell good food. As someone from out of Plymouth who is on a prolonged stay locally and beginning to sample many local restaurants I notice how a damning review sticks out as something which is based on cosmetics rather than the product. There is nothing poor about Thai on the Park.Recommended

“Very Poor!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2012

Overpriced and very poor quality food, and I mean the kind that you won't even bother eating. We had a array of food and it was all poor. One feels this place won't last much longer.

Apologies on behalf of our staff for your prolonged wait, and thank you for bringing this to our attention.
I must say that we do cook everything from fresh and individually, so even with relatively few customers it can take time to get through the orders for a table of 10. Having said that, your waiting time was clearly unacceptable and we will be reviewing this. I was surprised to hear your order came to £30 for just noodles and wine? Perhaps you ordered a premium wine? as our noodles are modestly priced at £8.95.

“Average food - there are better places to eat Thai food in Plymouth”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2012

Ate here on a Saturday evening. The waitress was charming but really busy and could have done with some help, she was taking orders, serving food and drinks and also dealing with take away orders. We could not fault her and she was professional throughout.

Starters of soup were fine, main courses were a mix of poor and average, the pad thai was padded out with beansprouts and too much carrot and onions. My main was so poor that i asked for it to be taken away, it was and the item was removed from the bill with no hassle. You can order drinks from the pub below, would recommend you do this as the price of the thai bottled beers is high.

i would suggest that there are better places to eat Thai food in Plymouth, the food here was bland but plentiful.

“Delicious, authentic Thai food, very reasonably priced”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2011

I've been going to this restaurant since it opened, and I love the food. It is cooked by Thai chefs and always tastes delicious.

The restaurant is informal, more like a bistro setting, and the staff are helpful and friendly.

On one occasion I took a friend with me who has travelled frequently to Thailand. He was ready to be critical, but actually gave the food the thumbs up for authenticity of flavour etc and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Downstairs is a well-established real ale pub where they brew their own beer. Can't go wrong, really!
