“2 massive ticks for this hotel - the location and the owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2010

We stayed at the Seawood over the August bank holiday. We normally opt for the modern, glass & chrome type hotel, and tend to feel a bit awkward in B&Bs when you feel as though you're in someone's home. The Seawood bridged the gap for us very nicely.

From the moment you arrive, you can tell this hotel is owned by people who put in a lot of effort and hard work to meet (even exceed) the expectations of their guests. When I mentioned that the bathroom (beautifully refurbished) could do with a small shelf to put your bits and pieces on, they said they would go out and get one that same day. The location is second to none. We had a dual aspect room, with seaviews out of both windows - we left the curtains open at night so that we would wake to the view. Breakfast was excellent, with pleasant and efficient service and, I have to admit, better than the modern hotels we normally pick.

It does feel as though the hotel has a bit of split personality at the moment. The bedrooms have been refurbished to a high standard and have got the balance right between matching the style of the building and providing all the mod cons. The public rooms downstairs are rather dated, presumably awaiting refurb. Having said that, they are still comfortable, and have wonderful seaviews. There's a lovely decking out front where you can take breakfast if the weather is good.

Parking is tight, and you just need someone to a park a bit carelessly to create the need to double-park. However, the owner is more than happy to do the necessary car manoeuvering to let you out if the car keys are left with him.

All in all, a lovely place to stay.

the seawood hotel is a beautiful hotel over-looking some amazing scenary. the staff including alberto were all very nice and helped me whenever i needed a problem. the bedroom i stayed in was perfect for a single traveller. i had internet access aswell which was a big help! the food i had there was just as brilliant. my thanks goes to russel and kerinda for there brilliant hospitality and i would advise anyone to go there. Even teenagers and kids would love to stay here, lynton and lynmouth has got things that the whole family can enjoy, for any other walkers this is the ideal place for you.

We are two seasoned Manhattanites who have had some great experiences this trip with wonderful B&B/Inn/hotel owners. But no one is as kind and genuine as the owners of Seawood. They went out of their way to make our stay special. The hotel is in the middle of a transformation -- from traditional and a bit stodgy to updated and stylish (n.b. they only do work in the off season so you won't be bothered). The hotel itself still has a lot of old world character, but most of the rooms have been updated to Elle Decor Magazine standards. We were first in room 11, which is very "bijoux" but well appointed. We were then moved to room 3 which is much bigger, has a killer bathroom with a wonderful view of the ocean and is very large. Try and book this one if you can. The breakfasts were great, and although we didn't eat dinner at the hotel, it smelled outstanding. It's location is second to none - beside the Lynton/Lynmouth cliff train and 20 minutes walk to Valley of the Rocks. With a location like this and such wonderful owners, you can't help but have a great stay at Seawood. I just hope we can return to see the fully transformed result in a few years.

Stayed at the Seawood Hotel for 3 nights. We were really surprised at how modern the hotel was inside. Great room, fantastic deep bath in room 3. Free internet, could play my IPOD...all we wanted. A great mix of old and new. Fun service from the great staff.

Three night stay August 2010, Warm friendly clean hotel, Exceptional Views of Lynton and Lynmouth. Proprietors work really hard to ensure that your stay is a pleasurable experience. Food was excellent served by polite friendly staff. The rooms were tastefully decorated with modern faciities.

We have stayed at the Seawood Hotel for up to half a dozen times over the past few years which, in itself, must amount to a recommendation. Our liking for the hotel and our return to it repeatedly have been based upon a number of favourable factors: its location, its furnishings and cleanliness, excellent food and, above all else, the warm welcome and first class service from Kerinder and Russell and their staff. Now that the proprietors have updated the bathroom and shower facilities in all the bedrooms, they have surely created a holiday stopping place that is second to none. Without doubt, it has our highest recommendation for a hotel of this size.
