“Just what the doctor ordered”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

This was a gem of a find, the location is fabulous the rooms and service were friendly and not intrusive. We came , we chilled and didnt want to leave. Just what the doctor ordered for our hectic lives. Fortunately, we had a repeat prescription and we are looking forward to going at the end of September.
Congratulations to Giles and Debbie for creating such a welcoming and charming atmosphere

This is an absolutely brilliant location, right on the river and the room we booked had a smashing balcony that overlooked it.

Parking although restricted a bit in busy times was not a problem and all day parking in one of the four car parks around Lynmouth and Lynton can be purchased very cheaply from the owners in conjunction with the council for only £ 3.50 for 24 hours per day.

This is not your normal House B&B as you are left to your own devices with a room and main front door key to come and go as you wish unhindered by any house rules as such.

More of a mini hotel/Lodge feel but without the bar or evening meal.

The place is extremely clean, basic, but to a high standard with coffee and tv, en-suite etc.

The owners are extremely friendly and accomodating and the adjoining very clean Cafe they own is a nice way to start the day as this is where they serve breakfast between 8.00am to 9.00am and the breakfast is very good indeed, fresh proper coffee and tea and a very good full english.

8-9 sounds short if you like a lie in somtimes as we do but believe me this is not a problem as you will be glad because the rest of the day can be filled with stunning views and walks that you might have missed had you lazed in too much by an hour.

Remember they also have to open the Cafe to the public by 10.00

Lots of lovely eating places on the doorstep with real ales and good wine and all in walking distance back to your abode.

All in all a Brilliant establishment in an incredible location with great value for money.

Would highly recommend

Room Tip: Ask for one of the three rooms overlooking the river.

Just back from a lovely stay at Riverside Cottage, Lynmouth. Would recommend and would love to go back. Room and view couldn't be faulted. Only one constructive gripe - bath towels were small (had to decide which bit to cover!)

Room Tip: Most rooms have sea/river view

Stayed here for 2 nights, can't fault the B&B at all, great location for exploring Lynmouth and Lynton. My room had a view of the river Lyn from the balcony. The room was clean and tidy with a nice sized ensuite bathroom. The B&B owners were very friendly and the breakfast was good.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have views over the river

We stayed for 2 nights at the Riverside Cottage and can't really fault it. The rooms were clean and pleasant and the cottage is in the ideal location for exploring the area, which really is breathtaking! The view from the balcony was beautiful and the owners were friendly and helpful. I would recommend the Riverside Cottage as a base for visiting Lynmouth and Lynton.

Room Tip: Try for a balcony room

We have stayed at Riverside Cottage once before in 2010 under the old owners, and it has recently changed hands to its' current proprietors.

Parking is in the public bays to the front of the property, where (if I recall correctly), you can park free from 6pm till 12pm or so, as we went for a walk up to the Valley of The Rocks after breakfast on the morning of departure and our car was fine. Please check though as there may be seasonal variations, and there is more info on Riverside Cottages' website.

Location-wise, it is very central to picturesque Lynmouth, and the front aspect rooms with balconies have excellent views outwards to the sea. Our room this time round was a smaller double (the "economy double ensuite") with a view to the rear over the street which runs parallel to the main road (the rooms at the front get snapped up quicker).

The decor was light and refreshing, and had possibly just been carried out as part of the new owners taking over. Even though the washbasin was set in a corner of the room, everything was neat and tidy, as was the ensuite shower room. The bed was also comfy and there was ample space in the room for 2 people to move around without getting in each others' way!

Breakfast is taken in the cafe/restaurant on the ground floor, and was promptly served, cooked to order, and set us up nicely for the day.

I should also mention the new owner Giles was very friendly and informative from the moment we arrived to the morning we left, giving us advice on where to eat, what to see etc. We definately wish both himself and his wife all the best in their new venture, as they are off to a great start!

When we return to Lynmouth we won't hesitate to stay again, as apart from the many positives noted above, I also believe the room rates are very competitive.

We were greeted the moment we went in to the hotel in the most friendly and relaxing way by Debbie and Giles. The room was spotless and everything was well looked after. We had a lovely balcony overlooking the harbour and river and spent many evenings just relaxing with a glass of wine watching the world go by. The whole resort is an excellent place for a holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I can also definitely recommend the home made scones for the devon cream tea we had in the restaurant and in fact the breakfast was also first class. A most enjoyable and stress removing holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms with balconies overlook the river and harbour.
