“Still the best coffee in Lynmouth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

This is the third time we have stayed at the Rock House and we have already booked up for next year, Mike , Glenys and all the staff are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The room we had was room 4 which had views over the sea and Countisbury Hill.
All the food is well cooked and appertising. This hotel is the closest to the sea that you can get.
Lynmouth itself is my favourite village, and there are lots of walks in the area.

Room Tip: Room 4 had windows on 2 sides giving views of the sea and Countisbury Hill. They have a room on the...

The location of this hotel is perfect, views of the sea from rooms, easy walking to village & attractions. Food is excellent, good wholesome fare. Not a huge choice, but I prefer quality rather than a 4 page mbuenu. The full english breakfast is a great way to start the day, but they offer lighter choices like salmon and scrambled eggs. You can get coffee, tea, cakes, etc. most of the day, so you do not need to go anyplace else if you dont want to. Rooms were clean and well kept. Every member of staff we saw was friendly, helpful and easy to approach. The only thing we would say is that some websites state there is wi-fi in the rooms. It is really only in the Bar, even the breakfast room is not a good spot. Not surprising with 17" thick walls! Car parking is a bit exciting at times, more due to bad drivers that anything the owners can do about it. We would happily come here again any time.

Top class hotel in THE most ideal location, could not fault any aspect of our stay; bedroom, breakfast and evening meal all better than many higher star rated hotels we have experienced. This area is one of outstanding natural beauty, this is the best base you could find to tour from.

We stayed for 2 nights in Room 2, which is a superior king room that is on the 1st floor over looking the harbour. The location of the establishment is great, right on the river, in the centre on Lynmouth. The room was lovely, with great views over the harbour and out to sea, and with the windows open at night the noise of the river was great, we loved waking up to it. The room was clean and comfortable, our only complaint is that the bed was very small for a 'superior king'. It was tiny! And it was a 4 poster, and it was too short for my husband who is only 5'11. His feet had to stick out of the bars at the end, so he was very uncomfortable. Also it was a very wobbly, shaky bed, every time one of us turned over it woke the other one up.
The food was absolutely lovely, the breakfast was delicious, one of the best fry ups we've ever had. We had dinner here both nights, and were both very impressed with the quality. It was a bit on the pricy side, but delicious. The only problem was that we ordered the baked Brie to start on one occasion, and had to send it back twice as it was still hard in the middle. On the second time we heard the chef yelling at the waitress, and her yellIing back, which was rather embarrassing for everyone in the restaurant.
On the second night we were there it was the annual raft race on the river which was good fun, but we were not told about it prior to our areival, and when we asked to have a table for dinner we were told that we couldn't eat there as they were fully booked! Which we thought was totally off, and eventually they found us a table, but not in the restaurant, and not at a time we wanted. We think they should have informed us when we arrived that it would be busy on that day.
Overall, we loved this little place, location and food were fab, and would go back.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August to visit the beautiful town of Lynmouth. Having been to the restaurant of this hotel a couple of years ago we decided to stay here on our return visit.

We were allocated room 4 which had a sea view and was beautifully decorated. We used the restaurant again on both nights and the food was delicious with plenty of choice and very reasonably priced, breakfasts were great too! The staff are really friendly and helpful and will assist you with any info you need to explore the local area. We would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to returning again sometime.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are lovely and worth the extra cost.

My sister and I stayed here for a couple of nights and had a brilliant stay. The room was clean and had all we needed, we were offered fresh milk for our cup of tea. We ate here on both nights and the food was excellent, service was very friendly and at no time did we feel rushed or left. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and of good quality. The owners and their staff were excellent, efficient and very friendly, while all working very hard. Our room had lovely sea and harbour views. We were on the ground floor and near the customer toilets, which other visitors had complained of, but we had no complaints and heard little and were not disturbed by this. We hope to visit again. Thank you for a lovely stay and being made to feel welcome.

Clean, lovely room, nice view. Friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble, they even put our clothes in the dryer when we got caught in a downpour. Excellent breakfast too! Would definately recommend it.
