This hotel has a 3 star rating. In general it lives up to this rating in quality and service, but is priced like a 4 star hotel.
What we liked about it:
1) Relaxing atmosphere, evening music and bar
2) Nice location with some good views (not extraordinary as some people say in their reviews)
3) Clean and beautifully decorated inside.
What we didn't like about it:
1) "Countisbury" room which I thought was a double room, is in fact a single room. When booking over the phone I was not made aware of it, even though it cost us 118 pounds a night (in July 2008) with breakfast
2) Waiting staff was not very qualified / experienced. E.g. when I came for breakfast the waiter didn't acknowledge the fact, I had to sit for 5 mins and wait, then had to call him, even though he saw me from the moment I came to the restaurant. What was his logic? I didn't come to enjoy the views, right? Anyway, then I ordered full English breakfast, in the meantime he made us a coffee with some sweet rolls and fruit - something you'd usually have as a dessert (that is - after the meal!). Again we waited about 15 mins then had to call him again. His first question was: "Are you ready for full English..". What was his logic? Don't know...Anyway, breakfast was just average, nothing exciting.
3) It is nice and clean - yes, but very overpriced. July is supposed to be high season here and many other nice and cosy hotels around had vacancies from as little as 30 pounds per person per night with breakfast. And no booking was required, so we felt like we were ripped off, especially considering that the room was so small.
4) The swimming pool - another attraction of this hotel was closed as early as 8-30, even though it said everywhere it was supposed to be open until 9-30. When at 9 pm we asked it to be re-opened, the receptionist said that it already had detergents in it adding as if making fun of us that "...if we wanted to take some risk he could let us in". We didn't think it was funny.
