“Don't stay in Exeter - stay at Chi in Kenton (10 mins away)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2010

We had trouble getting accommodation in Exeter, and were lucky enough to find Chi B&B and restaurant in the nearby village of Kenton.
Service from all staff was excellent, and room was quite large and well furnished, and well priced. Had our evening meal at the restaurant which is very modern. Meal was very good.. Received a discount of 15% as we were staying there.
Only downside is restaurant is closed on Monday, and access to car park is through a small laneway which would pose difficulties for a large car

A really good looking building, well maintained gardens and not your typical Chinese food - excellent value and quality (free range chicken etc) and even better when you get 15% off when staying.
Room was spacious, with some very modern fittings, mixed with tired ones. Wallpaper was cream painted antaglypta througout. Black coffee table had seen better days (covered in scratches, marks etc). Fridge in room very noisy, so had to switch it off. Bathroom and toilet down a corridor within the room. Basic, but OK.
Worst bit was breakfast not being served until 8.30am, so no good for business travellers or anyone looking for an early start.
In all, a few more new fittings, a new bathroom suite and earlier breakfasts would have helped me rate this higher.

If you stay here you need to aware that it is primarrily a Chinese Restaurant that also operates as a B&B with five rooms. We paid £230 for 4 nights so it is excellent value, clean and the owners/staff are very friendly and efficient.

First the disadvantages and there is really only one. Kenton is five miles from Exeter and about 6 from Dawlish, we found the location a bit awkward and in hindsight would have probably prefered to be within the City so that we could have taken an evening stroll to get something to eat.

There are many plus points, as stated above it is very clean, rooms are comfortable ours included TV, and fridge whcih we found very useful. Breakfast is £5.00 per person extra, we did not bother.

Where this establishement wins is the fantastic Chinese food, immacuately and imaginatively presented and you get alot. We really enjoyed our meal, first class and you get 15% discount as a resident. We stayed Wednesday to Saturday, the restaurant was always busy and it was only really the Saturday night when noise from the Restaurant was noticeable, but this stopped at 11 pm,

If you can adapt to the location, this is a great place to stay, good value and whether you are a fan of Chinese food or not definately eat here, you wont be disappointed.

My husband and I, have just returned from the chi restaurant, after a three night break. What can we say! It was absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the Lotus room, which was very clean and comfortable and had oriental touches. The room had sky tv and a complimentary tea and coffee tray .Each morning the tray was replenished with water, milk and biscuits and the towels were changed every day. We ate breakfast every morning, all excellent, and the service and quality of the food that we received definitely lives up to this restaurants 4 stars. The oriental breakfast was very different to anything we have ever tasted, and would reccomend people to try it if only once during their stay. The garden area outside was just so beautiful, peaceful and relaxing, again all with oriental touches.

Stayed 2 nights. Imagine going out for a delicious Chinese meal, drinking wine and not having to drive home after. Excellent! Food was really good especially the Cantonese style fillet of beef served on a sizzler... Service was excellent. Sent my phone number for a late checkout request by email got a reply by text in 30 minutes. Stephen, the owner is a very interesting chap and is doing great things at Chi. We really enjoyed ourselves and the dim sum breakfast is a must! The room was big and had wifi, tv and a sofa with separate full bath. Thankyou very much Stephen, we will come back!

I went to this place as I was looking for somewhere cheap near Exeter and the reviews were very good. I can definitely see why! The room I had was very spacious and comfortable. Had a good selection of books, freeview on the telly etc etc. I had the chinese dim sum breakfast in the morning that was also very nice for just a fiver. If you're there for a ramble, Powderham Castle is just round the corner within easy reach.

The only reason that I'm not giving it 5 out of 5 are that unfortunately they don't sell food on a monday night, and both the other food places in Kenton are shut that night too, so it's difficult to get food without driving back towards town...
