“Cheap and Cheerful!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Come here often with friends for a good drinking night out.

Thursday is Curry nite - curry and a drink - change from a tenner - can't go wrong.

Great atmosphere my only complaint would be the amount of kids wandering about - pain in the bum!!!

“Take your wet-wipes !”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

We visited The Sawyers lats Sunday with the intention of having lunch there. When we walked in the place looked a bit of a mess ........ there were dirty dishes/glasses on most of the tables and food debris, serviettes and empty sauce sachets on the tables and the floor. Assuming we'd caught the tail end of the lunch-time rush, we got ourselves a drink and sat at the least messy table we could find expecting it to be cleared shortly. After a while, it was obvious that it wasn't going to be cleared in the near future, so I took the dirty glasses and put them in the kitchen hatch, and cleaned the table with some wet-wipes which I had in my handbag. A party of four people sat down on the table beside us and also cleared it themselves and wiped it down with a serviette. There was a member of staff bringing food out to the tables, but she seemed totally oblivious to the fact that so many tables needed clearing, surely it's logical to take some dirty plates/ glasses back with her each time she comes out ? The other thing that stood out was that there were so many children in the bar that it resembled a nursery . I have no problem with well behaved kids but the majority of them were running around the place with no control and there were even two young lads riding through the bar on scooters. I understood that the Wetherspoons policy was that children were welcome if they were dining and were seated with adults. Unfortunately, most of the parents didn't seem to care less what their offspring were doing, much to the annoyance of a lot of customers who had popped in for a peaceful lunchtime drink. After 40 minutes, the tables still hadn't been cleared and we were knee deep in rowdy kids, so we finished our drink and went home for a sandwich instead. The Sawyers does have a 5 star hygiene rating for their kitchen so I certainly don't doubt the standard of the food, but I would only give the bar one star. We often visit the other Wetherspoons in the local area and usually get reasonable food at a reasonable price in nice clean and tidy surroundings, but standards in The Sawyers have definitely slipped. What we did find disappointing is that a few weeks ago, we complained to their customer services about the same problems and we were assured that they had been addressed , and we were invited to have a complimentary meal , which is why we went in on Sunday. Please take note Mr Martin, the Sawyers may make money but at what cost to your reputation ?
