I live just around the corner from the New Inn pub and have visited a few times since it reopened last year.
The main courses are really nice, with big portions. My wife and I are vegetarians and we went for the veggie burger which was really nice. Most pubs offer the veggie burgers dry but this one was topped with pineapple rings and cheese - which was an interesting (and pleasant) change.
Unfortunately the puddings are less nice. They are homemade but the ones we've had haven't been that great. We had pineapple upside down cake today and it had a nice flavour but was quite soggy and not very cakey. We asked for it with ice cream but they gave us the tiniest scoop I have ever seen.
That said at least they now have clotted cream on the menu (a must for a pub in Devon!), previously they only had squirty 'cream' :0
The pub is quite clean and new, and has been kept nicely. It also seems popular with locals - and they often have live music and quiz nights.
The manager is quite friendly but some of the staff are a bit miserable. Perhaps if we got to know them they'd be more friendly - but a smile doesn't cost anything :)
As local pubs go I don't think we could ask for much better. Just needs some work on the puddings and the smiles :)
