There are two lodges marketed as "luxury". They're are set on a fishing lake. One accepts dogs, one doesn't. They are equipped with everything you'd expect, fridge freezer, dishwasher, hob, big tv with freeview. The luxury parts are the log burner & the hot tub sunk into the decking over looking the fishing lake (oversized pond). We were told we could arrive from 2pm, the hot tub would be ready with fresh water & the logs burning. In fact we got there, the hot tub was cold & the fire wasn't lit. No problem though our spirits wouldn't be dampened, we were there for 3 nights over new year. They came round to greet us after a few hours with a little gift, which is nice. We asked when the hot tub would be hot & were told about 10-11pm. Not ideal as we only went for the hot tub really. However we accepted it & waited. It got to mid night & it was no where near hot so we went to bed! Disappointing start. Also the place was a little bit dusty. There were crumbs on the tray, stuff left in the fridge & freezer like half drank bottles of water & coke. The knife block was sticky with dust & hairs on it. It all needed a good wipe. Basics like this I would expect to be done in a luxury lodge. It would only take 10 minutes to wipe these over. There was an ensuite to the double bedroom which they call a wet room. The floor needs a scrub & bleach. It's fine though. The other bathroom has a nice big bath which could fit two people. Very nice. However they toilet brushes need replacing, they're manky, faded & dirty. They're just cheap white ones, which had lumps of excrement on them when we arrived! Nice. Again, not exactly luxury. Spend a few pounds & replace them!
They do come round every day to "check the chemicals" in the hot tub. I think it's more to check up on you & make sure you're not trashing the place! He just looks in the hot tub & says it looks fine. Doesn't test it or anything. These visits are unnecessary & annoying. Obviously you're relaxing in the middle of nowhere on a romantic break... Then a man comes round the back way & appears there at the hot tub! If they really want to do this they should knock at the front door. There were two robes, one without a tie. Again, a little thing but annoying. The whole living room area/kitchen has plenty of windows & they have nice quality shutters. They are covered in cob webs, like they've never been dusted. Again, this would take 10 minutes to dust. The basics are being overlooked in this lodge which is a big shame. Because an extra 30 minutes spent in there between guests arriving would be well spent. We had to vacate at 10am, which is very early when you can't arrive until 2. You are asked to leave the lodge as its found. I think we left it cleaner although I didn't dust off the cobwebs! Take the bins out, do the recycling etc. The big downer on this visit was we could only use the hot tub for two out of three nights & they didn't acknowledge this as a problem. Which to us it was. Especially when we were told it would be ready on arrival with fresh water! I would recommend it but I hope they took on our comments as we showed them the points we mentioned. All of them small things, but it does add up. The hot tub on the first night was the biggest blow though. Over all it's a lovely place, I think they've just got complacent as they think it's so good! We paid £475 for 3 nights.

In response to your views, I'm sorry that some of your experiences at the lodges were not as we had hoped for and can only now at this stage apologize.
The hot tub not being at temp seems to be the biggest issue. It is our policy to empty and clean the hot tubs after every changeover, unless your happy to sit and relax in basically someone else's dirty water, this is one of the reasons we have check out time at 10am so that we have time to do this and be ready for 10pm ish! However the guests before you were late leaving.
With regards to us coming to check your hot tub, as we both explained to you, we check the hot tubs on a daily basis, we open up the cover and check it's on the right setting as it's easy for guests to change the settings even though we ALWAYS show people what to press, so we don't come to check on you and we don't knock on the door, as it's a 5 second job! Usually guests come out and have a nice pleasant chat as they like to see us!!!!!!! However, we are having new controls put on the hot tubs next week so we won't need to check them daily!
With regards to the cleanliness of the lodge all I can do is apologize. The log burner when going creates dust and you can dust twice a day and it still comes back, we have 2 guests comments books that have been filled in since aug 2010 and EVERY comment has been excellent, however we take your comments on board and have reviewed our cleaning policy
Were glad that overall you liked the lodges and I hope your comments don't put off perspective guests.
