“Superb piece of Exeter history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

This ancient building, hidden away just off Fore Street yet near the city centre, is well worth a visit. It is but a small remnant of the original building but has been restored fabulously to re-created a Tudor kitchen, living quarters, etc. Well worth a visit.

“Fascinating place tucked away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

This place is really tucked away down a little alley but well worth a visit. We ended up there because the museum was shut on the day we went (Monday). Cost us £10 for a family ticket but was well worth it. Interesting history and good fun with VIctorian clothes for adults and kids to dress up in and plenty of information about the history. Really nice staff who were very helpful and gave us more info on the history.

“A well-hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

St Nicholas Priory isn't the easiest place to find if you're not familiar with Exeter, being tucked away on a narrow path (not much more than an alleyway, really) which runs beside a pub on Fore Street. It's well worth tracking down, however: it's a glorious building - one of the oldest in Exeter - and has been fascinatingly restored to its Tudor glory.

It's clearly aimed at a family audience and I have no doubt kids would love the place: there are signs up saying 'please touch', which is a great idea! It's interesting for adults, too, particularly as I was lucky enough to visit when there was hardly anyone else around and benefited from what was basically a personal guided tour by a likeable, very well informed volunteer.

I'm very pleased I managed to stumble across the place, even if it wasn't 100% intentional!

“A fascinating, family-friendly step back through time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

As most probably already know, much of historic Exeter was flattened in the war, so St Nicholas Priory is a rare treat in the city indeed!

The building itself, nestled away in a quiet area of the city, is gorgeous, and the inside has been immaculately presented, to give a real impression of what life was like at the time.

My two boys (4 & 2) really enjoyed it, though to be honest, 2 is perhaps a little too young to get the full benefits - he's not really the target audience! My eldest had a lovely time exploring all the interactive things though, especially laying out the table for a meal and dressing up!

One word of warning to those with younger members of family (ie around the 2yr old age - you know, that age where they like to run off a lot!) the building is not very safe for toddlers. No fault of their own, to make it safe would be to completely KILL the attraction of the historic building - but it might be an idea to either leave the smalls with a willing member of family / friend, or bring a sling to take them round in. Or be prepared to carry them a lot!

“worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

We visited this after staying in Exton for families day at the CTCRM. It is worth a visit and cost us £4 each for entry.
