Owner description: Powderham Castle is located in a unique, picturesque setting just outside Exeter, beside the Exe estuary. Six hundred years of history are contained within the walls of one of England's oldest family homes. Sir Philip Courtenay began building it in 1391 and it has remained in the same family to this day, currently home to the 18th Earl & Countess of Devon. The magical setting and convenient location makes it the perfect venue for all manner of events including wedding receptions and business functions. For locals and visitors to Devon it is a 'must see' and with its many attractions - a wonderful family day out!

“A brilliant day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

We, my 7 year old son, and I have spent MANY great days out at Powderham Castle, where everything is really well organised, interesting, informative, and most importantly fun.
We have taken the castle tour, a great opportunity to see the lovely house, thank you for letting us view your home, the beautiful grounds, i love the rose garden and the masses of colours, with its view over the deer park.
We have also enjoyed completing the nature trail and the themed 'hunts', with the wonderful prizes at the end.
The walled garden is brilliant with its small, but well stocked play area and animals.
The best part of the themed weeks has got to be the shows, performed by the Pocketwatch Theatre Company. These are entertaining, interactive and informative and again fun.
We have visited weekly during the school holidays, and will be back again very soon.

“A Peaceful Haven”

Very enjoyable place to stop for a "switch off" and pass a quiet hour or so in the grounds. Great breakfast in main building next to farm shop just off the main road.

“a lovely setting with great holiday entertainment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Take a day out to visit Powderham Castle. Not only is it a beautiful castle in lovely grounds, but they run fantastic family entertainment through the summer holiday. My children love to go to the castle, run around trying to complete the nature trails and play in the walled garden, taking a little time out to enjoy all of the animals there too. But best of all are the fantastic live theatre performances by Pocketwatch Theatre Company. From Captain Jack, to Men in Black, with a little Wonderland thrown in for good measure, the shows are entertaining, educational and fun for the kids as well as the adults! 1000 years of English Kings and Queens in 45 minutes! Fantastic!
All in all a great day for all of the family at Powderham Castle.
