“A Proper Pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2011

What a charming pub with delightul, friendly and really helpful staff.
We had a 'four poster' room and a three berth bunk-room. The latter is basic but clean and with a very comfortable large double bed with a single bunk above. Perfectly adequate for the children and grand children. The four poster was excellent, comfortable and very quiet although, we were told, there was drinking in the bar until the early hours. A basis in the room and our own bathroom a step across the passage which was no problem.
A good cream tea and early supper for the grandchildren and a good choice of Devon beers on tap. The full breakfast was excellent and very generous with toast rather than croissants (they don't do them in Devon!!) but lashings of butter and jams and plenty of good coffee. Overall an excellent stay. Thank you.

We stayed in one of the bunk rooms last week. As last year we had an excellent stay !

The room was more than adequate after a day's walking on Dartmoor, & the evening meal was excellent, not to mention the huge cooked breakfast.

The staff were very friendly & attentive, being there when needed but not intrusive. In fact, the impression given (especially when arranging superb packed lunches) was that nothing was too much trouble.

We will undoubtedly be back again next year - although there's a strong temptation to treat our wives to a stay in the four poster room before then - sounds very attractive.

Just one request - please don't lose the charm of the place when you refurbish !

The surrounding area and the local people were fine and very friendly.
Not complaining about 'get what you pay for bunks' etc, but the staff at this Inn were not at all helpful or friendly, unlike others and friends in the area. Perhaps it was just the wrong weekend. For me, a stressful experience and one to be avoided.

We stayed at the Drewe Arms at the beginning of march, and were greeted by a very pub with bed and breakfast nestled in a small village.
Inside the pub it was rambling with little rooms to either side of the entrance hall with a bar on one and restaurant area on the other.
Our room was one of the 4 poster bed rooms with bathroom opposite, the room was cosy and the bed very comfortable, one of the best night sleep i've had whilst away.
We came down especially to see some live jazz that they had on while we were there, this was performed in a function room behind the pub.
On the first day there we ventured into Exeter which is only a 20minute drive from the Drewe arms, so location and price wise a real find.
The dinners that we had on both days were superb and the breakfasts were very generous.
I lovely stay in a gorgeous bed and breakfast i thoroughly recommend it.

If you want something quirky and a little different this place is absolutely perfect! We booked a room there (four poster with bathroom opposite) as we had a course in Exeter and decided to go down the night before.

What a gorgeous little find! It's in the middle of Drewsteignton which, to be fair, when we arrived we couldn't see much off as it was getting on in the evening and quite rainy outside. The actual place itself has outside parking and beautiful hanging baskets outside with a proper cottage look to it. The whole place is incredibly diddy but in a quaint and non claustrophobic way. It's completely encased with historic photos of the owner of the property and tells a sweet story of being run by the eldest land lady in England (I think she was late 70's/early 80's and still running the place at one point - my memory fails me on this!) There's a number of little side rooms where you can sit with an open fire in one where we perched comfortably and had a tasty evening meal. I had a trio of fish which to be fair was well portioned but not brilliantly cooked (a bit dry) and my other half had a huge pie which was divine! A gentleman behind us had a meal that looked stunning so I think I just had an unlucky draw!

The room itself was up a quirky staircase and along a slightly sloping corridor - all which added to the character of the place (it would have felt unnatural had it been modern looking). The room had the most gorgeous decor in it - an old oil lamp and beautiful drawers and a stunning wardrobe. The four poster bed was a new one to us - never experience that before! It was incredibly comfortable but sadly very squeeking too! I only needed to turn over and it squeeked rather noisily! By jamming a pillow down the back of it though it seemed to solve most of the squeekiness... this is quite literally the only criticism I have of this place!

The bathroom opposite was gorgeous. A lovely freestanding bath which stonking hot water! There were fluffy towel robes and towles provided too in our rooms as well as a sink in the room.

When we woke up and looked outside we could see the courtyard much better and it was lovely! We were right next to a huge church that looked sweet in this quaint little village. Down at breakfast we had a whole array of fruit, cereal, tea, coffee and juices all set up at our own little table next to a huge old stove which was billowing out a lovely warmth - such a charming feature. We then had a huuuuge cooked breakfast brought out too - it was ENORMOUS! Absolutely cooked to perfection too!

The staff were lovely and chatty but not invasive. It is truly absolutely stunning. A perfect perfect find, only 20mins away from Exeter itself. We booked rather last minute too and the whole stay for us two... was only £40!!! Seriously! £40! What an absolute bargain!

We loved it. Absolutely loved it! If you like quaint and quirky go here!! It's perfect! It's definitely not for those who like modern living - a million miles from holiday inns and the likes! But just different in the most homely comforting way possible.

Go go go there! Brilliant beautiful, romantic and stunning!

Stayed here for 1 night, the surrounding area can't be beaten..totally gorgeous..staff were lovely, bar area very spit n sawdust, but wouldn't have it any other way..anything really polished or fake would compromise the overall atmosphere...our room was in the same vein but very comfy..worth staying awake to hear the the owls chatting !! The best room is probably the twin which is HUGE in comparison to the double rooms..the food OMG...fantastic !!..dinner..brekky...yummy..yummy...would definitely return, no problem..would have quite liked a TV tho..(superlisted building denies)...
