“Need more staff...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013 via mobile

Came here recently and it was very busy, the staff were all flushed and running around like mad. They had also run out of gluten free bases so we were offered 2 kids gluten free bases each instead of one full size one. Drinks are a bit overpriced compared to other places in town and the toppings were skimped on a bit! if you advertise something as having pine nuts on the menu it should probably have more than 3!

“Great location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

How many Pizza Express Restaurants enjoy a view over a Cathedral green directly to the Cathedral? Well, come to Exeter and you will enjoy the splendour of this glorious setting. Today the sun was shining and as many people chose to eat outside as inside. We had a table inside with the fantastic view. The Lasagne Classico was perfect and a pizza Romana just right. Just the perfect thin crispy base with the right choice of cheese. Great food and perfect setting.

“Nice food but service and atmosphere not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

The food at pizza express is great, albeit a little expensive for what it is, particularly the vegetarian pizzas. The main issue is the service and atmosphere. For a busy Saturday they seemed massively understaffed and it took about 20 minutes to be told they were very busy and our food would be a while and another ten minutes for the starter of dough balls to arrive. The main meals arrived probably 15 minutes later but one starter got missed and arrived about another ten minutes after the pizzas. It was a bit of a long wait and we ended up having to put more time on our car parking ticket to account for the long wait for food.

Another major problem were the staff. We were seated on the second floor by the tills and several members of staff spent the entire time complaining and moaning about one another. Particularly one woman who who would moan about someone behind their backs and then stick on a broad smile when that person appeared. It was pretty frustrating to hear when we we were spending about £60 on our family meal. Even if she was running the floor it was a very unprofessional way to go about airing her grievances with other staff. That combined with the noise level in the place meant I left with a headache and I'll probably avoid going back.

“lunch in the sunshine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

checked the website and got three courses for £13.95. It was a lovely sunny day so ate al fresco. Food and wine in the sunshine was good, but service was a little hap hazard but the view and October sunshine made it a pleasant time

“Tasty Food and Great Service from Emma”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

September 28th we booked a party of 5 and ordered a variety of dishes all of which were very tasty with fresh ingredients and the food was piping hot, although they don't offer pineapple as an additional ingredient for the pizzas ( most probably not very Italian anyway).
Desserts were very good in particular the banoffee pie. I had received a voucher for a free bottle of prosecco worth £20 which we would highly recommend even if you don't have a voucher( to get a voucher all you need to do is subscribe to the Pizza Express mailing list and enter your date of birth details, you'll then receive the voucher prior to your birthday).
Pizza Express don't serve decaffeinated tea but were more than happy to supply the hot water for one of our party who had brought their own decaffeinated tea bags.

The waitress on duty was Emma who was very helpful and pleasant, thanks for making our evening enjoyable.
