“Charming little place!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2008

A thoroughly charming and delightful B&B in the heart of Dartmouth, looked after by the lovely Geoff & Bev.

I can't recommend this place highly enough, the breakfast was one of the best I'd ever had, and the place was just adorable. Period features, bags of character and a beautiful selection of hanging baskets outside to welcome you into this wonderful home.

I was very happy to find the Cherub’s Nest at quite short notice. Just over a week before heading to the Dartmoor area, in Summer, I didn’t have many choices. Of the few available hotels and B&B’s many were charging well over £100 a night, some over £200. The Chrub’s Nest immediately appealed: It was under £100 a night, located in the great town of Dartmouth, and in a central location too, with a good rating on Trip Advisor.

It easily met my expectations. Firstly, the location is great. Two roads back from the waterfront in Dartmouth. Close to many bars and restaurants and importantly it’s not located at the top of one of Dartmouth’s massive hills. There is a compromise though. Parking is tough in Dartmouth when it’s busy. The Cherub’s is on a road with unrestricted, but very limited parking. If you can park on the road then it’s great. If not, you have two choices: I had to park a couple of times in a restricted area (up to two hours 9am-6pm), which was fine for overnight parking. The final backup is the main car park in town. The Chrub’s provided a free permit to park there, but it’s about 10 minutes walk away, and even that car park can fill up at peak times! This is, of course, no fault of the Cherub’s Nest, but a characteristic of Dartmouth. The alternative would be a B&B with its own parking, but this would most likely be outside the centre, up a massive hill.

Our room was nice and big, although it didn’t have a view and the shower-room was tiny. Probably the smallest I’ve ever used! But it worked well enough, and was clean.

Good breakfast with a wide choice of cooked options, friendly hosts, and a very relaxed come-and-go-as- you-please atmosphere.

As a B&B to use as a base for exploring the coast, Dartmoor, and enjoying Dartmouth, I’d absolutely recommend the Cherub’s Nest.

And one tip for Dartmouth: Take earplugs for when the seagulls start squarking at 5am!!!

Dartmouth has many Bed and Breakfast guest houses. This one I will visit again!

Fun and friendly hosts, comfy beds, amazingly quiet, and right next door to a pub, whose sounds you could hear only if you tried very hard indeed!

Excellent choice of breakfasts, good produce, and fresh fruit always available.

Central location. Parking by permit (included) or, with luck, right outside.

Just friendly. Who could ask for more.

Spent a few days in May staying at this Charming B&B conveniently located in the centre of Dartmouth. Dropping luggage off can be a bit of a problem due to narrow roads and parking restrictions, but this is more than compensated for by the owners Geoff and Bev giving you a car park pass that is not only valid for the nearby car park (5 minute walk), but also valid for some car parks at other locations, e.g. Salcombe. A big plus point!

The rooms are decorated and comfortable. Its location meant that the view from our room was restricted, but we weren't particularly bothered about that. The en-suite bathroom was small but perfectly acceptable. Geoff has also installed Wi-Fi for those who can't get away from email!

Geoff has lots of local knowledge and Bev cooks a great breakfast! Couldn't ask for more! Hope to get back at some point!

We stayed here for 2 nights in February, and can't praise it highly enough! We received a very warm welcome from the very friendly owners, who were helpful and courteous from the moment we arrived.

Fabulous location in the very heart of town and a 2 minute walk to the quay. Beautiful room, bags of character, with everything you need. Bathroom was tiny but very new and spotless, so who cares!!

Breakfast was fantastic - all cooked to order, with a surprising amount of choice for such a small establishment. It really set us up for the day.

Highly recommended is the pub next door - the Cherub. Great real ale, and a fantastic atmosphere.

I hope we'll get the chance to come back!
