“Superb B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

We have just returned from this B & B and was very pleased with the choice. Sheila and Rob were excellent hosts. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. The shower was big enough for two, should you so wish. The drinks tray ( tea, coffee, biscuits) was refilled each day and milk was left in the little fridge in the room, also the towels were changed daily, without us asking. The breakfast was excellent very tasty and large enough for the biggest appetite. There were good alternative breakfast dish choices too. Parking was £3.00 per day and a permit was provided.
I would heartily recommend the Captain's House, and could not fault anything.
The location was perfect too, near to shops, restaurants and the harbour.

just back from a great weekend at this lovely B and B.and feel miserable. We'd never been to dartmouth before and didn't know what to expect, we shouldn't have worried. The Captains house is easy to find, just a stones throw from the river and a few minutes walk away from the central carpark which cost us £3 a day ,this wasn't bad, as its £1.30 an hour. The hosts were welcoming and friendly without being intrusive . We had room 1 with a massive 6ft bed, small bathroom and a fridge. which was topped up daily with fresh milk. I had a good nights sleep as it is close to the shops and restaurants but in a quieter area. the only noise came from the seagulls.Breakfast was excellent and cooked to order, I had delicious smoked salmon and scrambled eggs one morning. The english breakfast was filling and the food of good quality. All in all a lovely, spotless clean. quirky B and B that we would highly recommend.

Room Tip: if your not good with stairs rooms 1 and 2 are on the first floor.

We just got back from our 3rd stay. This time we stayed for three nights. Fantastic 2nd floor room at the front of the house. Breakfast as good as you will get. Great value and great hosts. Thx.

I stayed here on a business trip for one night.
The room I was in was lovely and clean and the bedding was fresh and smelled lovely.
I was impressed at the standard of cleanliness in the bathroom, I have actually never seen such a clean toilet- it must have either been brand new or obsessively cleaned daily as it was spotless. (So much so that I noticed and looked closer to check!)
The little shampoo bottles etc are useful in case I forget mine (but didn't luckily) and plenty of milk was left in the fridge for me to make endless cups of tea.
Lovely old furniture and great hosts. (Even if I was a little worse for wear in the morning!)

Only drawback was that the road was a little noisy from my room, but the guls and harbour noises made up for it!

A delightful house, very quirky with wonky floors and doors, full of character. Lovely, clean and light room with a small fridge - chill that cider (and milk for the picnic!). The owners, Rob and his wife were really friendly, and provided a lovely breakfast with lots to eat. It's well located and central without being noisy.

The parking permit for the car park is excellent (about a 3 minute walk to the car park) - if you stay for more than 1 night you can used it in any South Hams car park.

My husband who doesn't do reviews says a really nice place, lovely people, proper breakfast.

We will definitely try to stay here again next time we're in Dartmouth.

My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant, two-night stay. The Captain's House is situated just one block from the harbor and several blocks from the town center. The neighborhood was quiet with the exception of some construction going on down the street; this began at a reasonable time of day (after we were up and out) and was not unreasonably loud.

We were the only ones there on the first night, so Sheila offered us a larger bedroom at the same price for the two nights. The breakfasts were excellent. My wife chose the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and I had the full English breakfast. The mattress was a bit softer than I am used to, but did not keep us from a good nights sleep.

Parking is available in a lot nearby for 3 pounds per day. We had dinner at a pub recommended by our hosts that is located on the second floor of the very old Cherub Inn. A great place to go.
