“Excellent B & B close to Harbor and Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2012

My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant, two-night stay. The Captain's House is situated just one block from the harbor and several blocks from the town center. The neighborhood was quiet with the exception of some construction going on down the street; this began at a reasonable time of day (after we were up and out) and was not unreasonably loud.

We were the only ones there on the first night, so Sheila offered us a larger bedroom at the same price for the two nights. The breakfasts were excellent. My wife chose the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and I had the full English breakfast. The mattress was a bit softer than I am used to, but did not keep us from a good nights sleep.

Parking is available in a lot nearby for 3 pounds per day. We had dinner at a pub recommended by our hosts that is located on the second floor of the very old Cherub Inn. A great place to go.

Great directions to the Guest house and then a warm welcome. Room a good size. Great having fridge in room, keeps wind cold as well as milk!
Good size beds. Very comfortable so great night's sleep.
Great breakfast.
Could not fault. Hope to go back again.

Room Tip: I suspect all would be good. We were at the front and only pedestrian traffic,on the whole.

Small B&B with 4 rooms . Very friendly welcome and good sized room. Good sized shower. Nicely decorated and good sized TV with lots of channels. Usual array of tea and coffee but nice to have fresh milk in the fridge. Only minor criticism of room was it was almost impossible to open wardrobe! Breakfast good with selection of fruits, cereals and main courses. Centrally situated so easy walking distance to a large number of excellent restaurants and pubs.

Room Tip: Fronts rooms are larger with views but are more expensive

Having never stayed in a B&B before I had to admit being a bit worried about what the experience would be like. I need not have worried, the reviews on here are spot on and we really enjoyed our short but sweet stay at The Captain’s House.
Staying for only two nights for a family wedding we needed a comfy bed in Dartmouth to rest after a 7 hour drive from the North, a good breakfast to prepare us for the inevitable waiting that precedes a wedding and convenient place to crash after dancing the night away. The Captains House was perfect in this respect and a special note must go in for the breakfasts and especially the Eggs Benedict that was above and beyond what I would expect from a B&B.
Whilst the Captains House doesn’t have its own parking, free parking (out of season until May) is only a minutes walk away. The rooms are lovely and clean with everything you need for a couple of nights away.
Located in an old house, things aren’t perhaps always square or flat, and the stairs are a little on the steep side if you’re unsteady on your feet but we thought that this just added to the charm of the place. Our hosts couldn’t have been more helpful in accommodating our later than expected arrival, offering to help with the luggage or indeed with anything they could offer to us to make our stay comfortable.
I wouldn’t think twice about booking here again.

We had five nights at this hotel in room 1. It was a lovely stay. The owners were warm and friendly, a good warm room, large super king sized bed, fridge in our foom and a great choice of breakfast. We will be returning as i am sure many people do. Also used parking permit.

My husband and I had a wonderful week at The Captains House in October 2011. We were in room 1 and room 3. Both rooms were lovely and the beds were really comfortable. The breakfasts were fantastic, the best poached eggs I have ever had. My husband is more adventurous and tried the Eggs Benedict, it was great. We would both highly recommend this lovely traditional B & B and hope to be back often.

Room Tip: Room one and four are large and have super-king beds.

Found this a comfortable place to stay with a friendly welcome from the owners. Accommodation is very well situated and parking not too much hassle using main Dartmouth car park. Breakfast excellent and rooms reasonably clean and comfortable. We were in room 4, which had quite a small bathroom, and I wouldn't quite put it in the AA 4 star category, hence the four stars overall. Ate in Rockfish (fish and chips) and Sails and found both excellent value. Walked there and back to Dittisham (all nine miles!) via ferry - pub at Dittisham was very good.
