As a local holiday home owner and a visitor of dartmouth for the past 20 years+ aswell as being a lover of the area, I cannot say that i have been treated so rudely in the town for all of those years. I am aware the restaurants in the area serve top quality food at quite high prices and enjoy visiting them throughout the year. I recently visited Taylors restaurant whilst on holiday with a friend and two children aged 8 and 10 being fully aware that the restaurant only allows children to dine aged 7 years and over. We had previously rang and enquired about children dining and were told that children aged 7 years and above were welcome. We arrived at Taylor's at our reservation time and were looked up and down whilst walking up the stairs to meet the lady greeting us, we were then greeted by a 'yes' after which we told her we had a reservation to which she seemed shocked. The lady then proceeded to seat us after which she said 'your going to have to pretend they are over 7' to which my friend replied 'they are both over 7, the little girl is actually ten years old' after this the lady seating us said 'oh well done' which we thought was very rude! After this we had 4 different waitresses serving us throughout our meal who all gave us a frosty reception which we can only assume was because of the children we were dining with (which were both impeccably behaved might I add). When it came to dessert we allowed the children to choose which they would like as they could not choose a proper main course due to their being no children's menu. One of the children was struggling to choose when the waitress came to us, to which the lady said 'if you don't like the sound of those don't have one as they are expensive' which just topped the evening off! Why would a waitress working for the restaurant try and deter someone when choosing from the menu? Child or not? I was the one paying the bill therefore what we chose should have been no concern for the lady serving us. Overall I feel that all 4 of the ladies serving us treated us differently to all the other guests in the restaurant that evening which angers me, the children were impeccably behaved and we were paying customers like everyone else dining that night, and the prices are not cheap may I add. Fine food, complements to the chef but stuck up waitresses who need a lesson in manners from the children aged 8 and 10 years which were dining with me that night.

I am so sorry that you have felt the need to write such a review of Taylor's and I can only apologise for the incident that occurred.

I have discussed the matter with the lady who welcomed your table to Taylor's on that occasion, and although she felt that her comments were said in humour, it is obvious that in actual fact they were totally unacceptable and inappropriate.
I can't think why you feel that we treated your table differently that evening and I am really sorry that you felt this way. I can only think that perhaps we were either very busy or that other diners were more demanding than yourselves.
Obviously we started off on the wrong foot as soon as you walked up the stairs and I can fully understand why you were upset and embarrassed in front of your friend.
After the event it is now difficult for me to put things right other than offer my sincerest apologies and hope that if you ever decide to dine with us again, we will do better next time.
