“Ship and Castle Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2011

Just returned from the ship and castle. Had a brilliant enjoyable stay - hotel sits on the quayside excellent position - hotel staff very friendly - the restaurant and bar has been tastefully refurbished and the food exceeded all of our spectations. Jean-Pierre, restaurant manager did an excellent job nothing was too much trouble for him or any of his staff for that matter - Our room was on the first floor and although clean and comfortable it was a little tired in the decoration and needed a little attention.

Imagine - a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed with cotton sheets,a warm soothing bath, breakfast eaten watching the sun rise over the bay,a personal escort to your dinner table, courteous and friendly service, delicious food and relaxing after-dinner music. What more could you want? I'll be back, hoping that the best creme brulee I've ever eaten is still on the menu!

Stayed there recently and thoroughly enjoyed it,hotel kept nice and clean everywhere, staff very friendly and helpfull, food very good, nicely cooked and well presented in a very pleasant dining room, our room very comfortable(two easy chairs),C.H..radiator plus another plug in one,the only dowside was the shower in the bathroom, whoever modernised it installed the concertina door on the wrong side,so that when you opened the door to turn it on prior to getting in it closed covering the shower controls so you had to twist your arm round the door to get at the controls, apart from that minor problem the hotel was excellent,we have stayed in lots of Shearings hotels in the past and we think that this one overall, has been the best one.

I have just returned from a holiday in St Mawes at the Ship and Castle - brilliant - the only word to describe it - rooms good, food excellent, staff extremely pleasant and helpful and i thought the restaurant manager john pierre was good and I thought old fashion chilvalry was dead but no he escorted all the ladies to their tables and seated them at the table - well done - a perfect gentleman - will recommend this hotel to all my friends - surrounding area lovely with plenty of things to see and do.

Dee and Glen - october 2011

Room Tip: All the rooms good but for that extra special bonus get a room with a balcony - perfect for that ear...
