“No food - at a hotel?!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

We ate here on a Friday evening and had a good pizza and enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. We therefore decided to go back on the Tuesday evening for a meal. Despite the fact that this establishment advertises itself as a hotel, we were told that the chef had the day off so there was no food!! This was most disappointing so we went to the Victory Inn and had a good meal there instead!!

Visiting St Mawes for a long weekend. We are staying at the Idle Rocks which is fantastic and decided to have a walk before dinner. We called in for a drink at their sister hotel, the St Mawes hotel, and stayed for 3 hours! Enjoyed good food, excellent service and delightful ambience. Would definitely return. All of the staff and especially Lawrence were very helpful and cheerful. A lovely evening!

This place is a little confusing because unlike most hotels there is no ground floor reception but a French style cafe bar area with a shabby chic nautical twist. There is a bar area with several wooden tables for four and some lounge seating. There were no table menus and we sat for some time awaiting service before we were told that food and drink orders should be placed at the bar. The only menu I saw was a drinks menu on a wall. I ordered coffees and a hot chocolate. I enquired about the usual things that go with a morning coffee such a biscuits, cakes, pain au raisin etc but they do not do such things. So not much like a French style cafe bar then!!!
The staff were very pleasant and the coffee was good with hot milk but the noise of the piped music soon drove us out. The cost for a cup of hot chocolate and two coffees was over £8 which i thought was overpriced. I have no doubt that this hotel is really lovely but as a coffee stop you would be better going to the cafe next door or elsewhere in St Mawes.

My first stay and it will not be my last. Staff were friendly and professional, and treated us as valued guests. Our room was stunning over looking the water, and the hotel having just been renovated was gorgeous! Definitely would recommend and already planning my return !

We stayed for 1 night and we loved this hotel. They have just reopened after renovations. The service excellent, the staff very attentive and helpful, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed and it was spotlessly clean ! . The decor is contemporary and flowed through the hotel. Lovely crisp white linen, . The log burners in the bar and lounge areas made it homely and special. The rooms quiet and well maintained with everything you could want ( milk for the tea and coffee maybe) . I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return.

We tried to stay here last summer but they hadn't quite opened fully, so we were delighted to find it busy and popular on Easter Sunday with customers spilling out onto the sunny seafront. We sat in the ridiculously comfortable vintage leather sofa opposite the woodburner with a bowl full of complimentary chocolate eggs for the children and floral displays of daffodils. Dog friendly and incredibly accommodating of our children - it was a pleasure to be there - the food was delicious and served promptly - they clearly know their wine as the selection was outstanding. An eclectic mix of customers made for excellent people watching! We'll definitely be returning!

We have been coming here for over 10 years and seen it through various makeovers/chef chages and only return because of the location but it has just reopened and it's is looking beautiful. The upstairs room is a mix of shabby chic/upmarket seaside holiday home, we popped in for one quick drink and ended up staying for a few, very comfy sofas and welcoming fire or drinks on the balcony and welcoming staff. We didn't eat but will go back to and would highly recommend it for a drink/afternoon tea.
