“Best place in Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

We stayed in the lookout room in May 2012 & had a great time, Room service, Food & all the sloop staff were 2nd to none, If your thinking of somewhere to stay in Cornwall, you won`t go far wrong by going to the Sloop Inn, Some say St Ives is the jewel in the Cornish crown, In our eyes the Sloop is the jewel in the St Ives crown, the view from the room was beautiful , stunning to wake up to. W e certainly would not hesitate in recommending the Sloop Inn to anyone wanting a good place to stay in St Ives. Excellent location for all amenities.

The Sloop Inn plays a significant part in the history of St Ives, but readers will appreciate discovering it for themselves.

The most noticeable thing about this pub is that it is extraordinarily busy. The outdoor seating is almost always jam-packed in good weather, so we were confined to the saloon. Even so, the Sloop is a pleasant place to enjoy a drink right in the middle of the harbour.

The bar is standard. There is a good selection of ciders, but real ale enthusiasts might be a little less impressed. The atmosphere is quite cosy and the low ceilings give it an almost below-the-deck sensation. The art on the walls is a nice touch, but clearly overpriced.

The food here is good. The moules were very well prepared, but they weren't outstanding. The ladies opted for the hamburger, which - again - were good but not amazing.

The service was prompt, but as with any pub as busy as The Sloop one can't help but feel a little rushed.

We stopped here for a cooked breakfast which was great value. The service was quite sullen though.
The interior of the pub is very traditional - low ceilings, stone floors, hidden away corners etc. This would be a great experience for people looking to see a typical old pub.
Great location right on the quayside.

I have visited St Ives for years and love it every year I go. Many a night in spent in the sloop drinking rattler, eating their fabulous food (cornish trio is a must) and soaking up the infectious atmosphere. I decided to go back down for the bank holiday and thought i would stay in the sloop, as I love it so much. Worst decision ever. The rooms were terrible, nothing like they said they would be. Linen wasn't changed, we left out dirty towels on the floor and the maid picked them back up and hung them up- bearing in mind they were sandy and muddy. When raising this issue with the receptionist she simply replied, 'We dont have any clean towels left'. Not exactly what you expect from a rather over-priced B&B. Even after complaining, we later returned to still dirty, wet towels. No mini bars in the room, and only one plug out of the 5 worked. We didn't get clean glasses for our stay ( 3 nights) nor did any of our teas and coffees get replaced. On leaving we checked under the beds and found other peoples clothes and dirty sheets stuffed underneath there- and also piles of sand. I honestly don't know when this room was last cleaned. I am not a fussy person and I can bear some mess but this was dirty and for such a nice place and considering the standard of the pub, you would think that the accomodation would be the same. Great place to eat and drink however a great disappointment to stay over.

Room Tip: If any- request their best.

We have just returned from the Sloop inn and booked the rooms over looking the harbour. We took advantage of their breakfast being served in your room. The food was lovely and staff were excellent.
The views were amazing and we stayed for 3 nights. It is reccomended to talk to the hotel about parking before you go as it is difficult in high season.

Room Tip: We stayed in 'The Lookout' we couldn't hear any noise from the room next door but you do...

Stayed for 4 nights. Our room was the boatman it over looked the harbour. Breakfast is served in the room at a little table in the window.
We loved its central position.
The staff are all friendly nothing too much trouble.
The room was plenty big enough for us clean and tidy.
We would recomend the sloop inn to every one and will be returning as soon as we can

Only went in for drinks, a couple of times and no meal, but the place needs sorting out. I was politely asked to move the kids to the back bar which isn't a problem because not everyone wants to have a pint in front of 9 year olds but it's grotty and crowded, so we ended up out the back with cigaretee smoke for company. When we returned a day or so later to sit outside the smell in the public bar was nauseating. It was there before but had got so much stronger. The gents are not great, but my wife tells me the ladies were horrendous. It's such a shame, the whole place needs sorting out because it could and should be the gem of the harbour front.
