“surf beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

Not much there except surf hire and a beach cafe. Clean with good waves. Parking is available but at a bit of a premium.

“A shimmering stretch of yellow sand as good as anywhere in Europe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Gwithian beach arcs for almost four miles southwest to Hayle and is for my money the best, and most scenic beach in Cornwall. I walked along it's entire length earlier this year whilst tackling a long stretch of the coast path and was taken in with it's beauty and sheer scale. Much of the beach is backed by high sand dunes or "towans" and there are plenty of places to access the beach where you can park your car and wander down to it.

The views as you head along it's length are superb, with Carbis Bay and St Ives to the west and Godrevy island and it's lighthouse to the east. It's sheer size means that it can never get busy or packed; go at any time and you will have all the space you could possibly need without other people treading on you or kicking a ball into your lunch.

Facing the northwest, it is an ideal beach for surfing as well as more laid back beach pursuits. I remember spending many happy days here as a child, it was unspoilt then, and is still unspoilt now I'm pleased to say.

If a day on the beach is on the agenda when in southwest Cornwall, then look no farther than Gwithian.

“Cornish Delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

A vast expanse of unspoilt golden sand with some lovely rock-pools to the side. If you venture off the beach, past the sand dunes to the National Trust area, you may see seals and their pups in September in the bay below the cliffs. This is a perfect spot for families - well, anyone, to be honest! (Altho you can keep the sand-dunes, which are used as dog-toilets by those ignorant owners - YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!
