“Lovely guest house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2009

I have stayed at St Margaret's several times in the past year and found it to be very nice, owners friendly and very helpful with local information. It is a bit high, so someone who isn't able to walk very far, may find it difficult, but the views are great. I appreciate their ethical outlook and use of Fairtrade.

My husband and I were booked into this B and B for two nights and only managed one!
This was an incredibly poor B and B, and we felt so disappointed by everything you should reasonably expect. We were welcomed by the owner telling us our car was too big for the allocated car park space and had to park up the road in the car park (which cost us an extra £20). The other owner barely acknowledged us and we were treated as an inconvenience in her day.
The room was so small, with a cupboard that had been turned into a toilet and there was no separate shower room but a little alcove with a fitted shower. You could not shower or use the facilities in a dignified manner.
The views from the breakfast room were nice, but the website doesn't tell you that it is set incredibly high from the town with access via at least 80 steep steps.
I paid £70 per night for this 'pleasure' . This was supposed to be a couple of nights retreat for my very busy husband before he returned to work. We left stressed and so angry that we had spent so much money and enjoyed so little of this expedition!.
p.s never visit St Ives in August - it's too small to handle the tourists. No doubt very beautiful at the right time of the year. These people should simply not be proprietor of this guest house!

After reading the reviews posted by two other guests of St Margaret's I have to wonder if we stayed at the same place. Yes the house itself was clean and the breakfast tasty, but the welcome was far from welcoming by two people who I had to question should they be in the hospitality business??? This was our only holiday this year and could have easily been ruined because of the frosty reception we recieved on our arrival. We were made to feel unwelcome and in the way. Maybe our faces didn't fit, or maybe the owners need to go on a refresher course for people skills. Despite this an altogether wonderful holiday, i'd recommend St Ives for its beautiful coastline and scenery but would not recommend any family or friends stay at St Margarets guest house.

We stayed at this inn for a few nights and overall the property was clean, pleasant and nice and breakfast was quite good.

There were a few minor issues but the owners dealt with them quite well.

The one thing that would have really made a difference to our stay, though, was if there was wireless internet in the rooms or somewhere in the property. Internet is such a crucial trip-planning tool these days, and we really missed it at St. Margaret's.

St Margarets is run by Sandra trevena with help from her husband Brian. They are a fantastic couple, very helpful especialy people who like to walk, Sandra is very good with the local side of things, brian is just a top bloke, very funny, we have stayed there five years in a row and have enjoyed it every time. You will not find a better place to stay, the food is excelent, rooms are great and the welcome and feeling of homeliness is just fantastic if i could live there all year i would. try it you will not regret it i promise.

ST IVES is a lovely place for a holiday the surfing beach is one of the best i've been to,the pubs have a nice frendly atmosphere. plenty of shops for all kinds of tastes, Sandra can even tell you where the best ones are for what ever you need. five years in a row says it all, we love it, my son loves it at the beach he's like a dolphin when he gets in the sea, he just wont come out. theres a harbour to walk round at evening when the local fishermen are in empting thier catches, you can see seals swiming round looking for scrap fish, sometimes they will through fish on to quay side to throw out to the seals.if your realy lucky you may even see some dolphins. there are some excelent coastal fishing villages within easy reach that are worth a trip to. go on give it a try.
