“magnificent experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2010

we stayed at Blue Hayes for three days in 2008 and knew we had to come back. Our planned trip for April this year failed to eventuate due to the volcano but we did succeed in October, We stayed for three weeks in the lap of luxury. On the last night we enjoyed the dinner platters again and, as a wonderful farewell, we both had lobster. It was presented beautifully, was delicious and was a fitting finale to a wonderful stay. Thank you very much, Malcolm and staff, it was superb in every way.

My reviews are normally long and detailed. Thanks to all the previous reviews I don't have much to add as everything has been said. Here is my slant on the Blue Hayes and staff.

B - Breathtaking
L - Luxurious
U - Unique
E - Elegant

H - Heaven
A - Amiable
Y - You Must Go
E - Exceptional
S - Sublime

We stayed in the Master Suite which was just perfect with it's large balcony and lovely views.
Thanks to Malcolm, the owner, for his meticulous attention to datail, his friendly manner, his knowledge of the area and fine dining, and for giving us the opportunity to stay in such a beautiful hotel. I must also say a special thanks to Sue for taking time out and printing an itinerery for our days touring in West Cornwall. I really appreciated driving on roads 8 feet wide Sue !!!!!!!! Our breakfasts were varied and beautifully presented and our waitress, Elizabeth, also deserves a special mention, a lovely and very interesing Cornish lady. Cocktails in the bar are the perfect way to start your night.

We had an amazing time in Padstow and our 3 night stay at the Blue Hayes. Was well worth an 11 hour drive home.

This is one hotel where the promise of the website and reality come together. We stayed in the Godlevy Room, looking out to sea from the high vantage point the Hotel enjoys. The room was excellently appointed. We walked down to the town and back on all occasions, but would recommend a taxi if you are bringing heavy luggage from the train or bus. A couple of doors away is a Ford dealership that hires good quality cars at a moderate price, so tripping around from St Ives is easy. The meals and bar at Blue Hayes are excellent. This is a hotel where the owner sets out to run a hotel the way he thinks hotels should be run and does it very well. St Ives is a great base for the region and interesting in itself, nestled on various picturesque bays.

Wow what a wounderful way to remenber my 50th birthday! Malcom and his staff made my 50th birthday extra special, a weekend I will never forget! The room was of a very high standard and had an amazing view, the food was lovely and the company excellant! The weekend was made complete by having our breckfast on the verandah. We would recommend Blue hayes with its high standards and relaxing atmosphere to anyone wishing to visit this part of Cornwall!

It is very relaxing and satisfying to find something that works perfectly and without fuss or fanfare - and Blue Hayes is just such a thing. This was our second visit, and sometimes it can be hard to repeat a flawless experience, but, if anything, it was even better this time around.

Malcom and his staff care passionately about the well being of their guests. An example: every breakfast Malcolm greets all the guests. I really felt that I'd been singled out because of his caring and involved approach. And then I noticed that he treated every other guest in just the same way. He makes you feel special because he cares.

I'm also impressed by his perfectionism - both in what he does do, and more unusually in his trade, for what he doesn't do, and the reason for it. For example: he doesn't have newspapers delivered because no-one is St Ives delivers them reliably. He doesn't want to confound anyone's expectations.

It goes without saying that all the furnishings are of the highest standard, and spotlessly clean. Breakfast is a wonderful experience. The tables are large and very sturdy, so you don't feel cramped. Perhaps a small point, but it's the details that best show the quality of this place. You can see that Malcolm has put himself in the guests' place and decided what would give the best experience.

There are some excellent hotels, but none that deliver the personal touch and luxury so successfully as Blue Hayes.

This was a return visit for us, this August, having so thoroughly enjoyed last years stay.
So we arrived full of expectation and we were not disappointed, though I knew we wouldn't be.
Malcolm, owns and manages this place with a quiet and unassuming (but extravagent) flourish. He is always there in the seemingly effortless attention to detail, (though I know the effortlessness must really be bloody hard work!!), and in the immaculate presentation of this place. It reminds me of a lovingly cherished big white pearl, apparently so naturally perched up there on the cliff, as though it just landed there, in its perfection. As though it just happened.
But as with any pearl, the skill and the beauty are in the layers. So beneath the shiny Pearl surface, there lies, meticulous attention to detail, immaculate presentation, spotlessness unrivalled in any hotel I have seen before, fantastic customer service, an easy charm, a tranquility, luxury, indulgence..... the list of layers goes on. And must without doubt include his adept choice of staff, all of whom were an example to us all.
We stayed in the Bay suite this time, but to be fair you could probably stay in the broom cupboard here and not be disappointed!
Malcolm really cares about this place, it is crafted and adored, he loves it and wants you to love it. The touch is personal and indulgent. Inspirational really. He has quite simply lovingly crafted a Pearl and then dipped it in his own personal glitter.

Fantastic place , fantastic people , and even more fantastic cocktails and breakfasts !!! My husband and I stayed for the weekend of our 15th wedding anniversary , and were greeted by the owner and he had placed a card in the room for us. We did teach him a new cocktail (JD Sour ) to add to the already huge list of cocktails available , just wish we could of stayed longer in order to try them all !! Great attention to detail - Molton Brown gels etc , most comfortable bed I have slept on in a hotel . I was hoping to keep this a little secret but looks like aeverybody on here has had the same unforgettable time as we did !! Well done Blue Hayes . Would I recommend ? Without a doubt !!
