“Modern luxury apartments with a great pool!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2014

We stayed in one of the Porthminster Mews at New Year - we had the best week. Easy walk down into town + v close to the amazing Porthminster beach cafe. Kids could use the pool at certain times (hotel could be better an informing other guests when the kids time was so they didn't have to be a tad annoyed with all the kids in the pool) but seperate times is a good idea and worked well for the most part. Was good to have the facilities of a hotel plus have a lovely two story mews house to stay in - so relaxing - great upstairs kitchen with views across Carbis Bay. Mews is set back from the hotel - across the road - but views still great - parking space, and lovely new, luxury furnishings. They need to get some more kitchen equipment - but we ate out a lot and it was just the perfect week.

We have just returned from spending a one night dinner, bed and breakfast package at this hotel.

Pros
Excellent customer service in the bar, restaurant, and spa.
Great to have access to the spa with its pool ( on the small side but suited our needs ), hot tub, sauna and steam room.
Spectacular views from outside terraces, restaurant and spa.
Gourmet dining at a reasonable price.
Valet garaged parking which is free.
The hotel has obviously undergone a tasteful refurbishment but has managed to keep many of the older features such as the lift, doors/locks and sash windows.

Cons
We booked a standard, inland facing, twin bedroom which was very small. Due to lack of space the two beds were pushed together which really constituted a double. The en suite although new was also very cramped. A small TV was placed on the dressing table as opposed to hanging on the wall and this also restricted space. When asked about our stay upon departure, we stated that we had found the room to be very cramped and the receptionist replied that some of their standard rooms are small and that next time we should state that we wanted to be accommodated in a larger standard room. Obviously if we had known about this in the first place we would have done so and will do so in the future.

Hence, we would definitely recommend this hotel for the excellent communal facilities but had some concerns regarding the size of the bedroom we were allocated.

Excellent hotel close to the centre of St Ives. We recently stayed for two nights. We had an excellent meal on the first evening and breakfast was first class. The rooms are very comfortable, extremely well equipped and had a great view of the sea. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view as they are spectacular.

From the minute we checked in to when we checked out , we had a wonderful time.
The staff are all really friendly and helpful.
We had a sea view room which had stunning views, it was a good size and the decor was modern and lovely..
We went for dinner on the first night and went for the £25 menu which had a good choice of dishes and didn't dissapoint
The spa is well equiped and a nice place to chill out, the pool is fairly shallow but perfect to swim a few lengths in.
The hotel itself is situated about a 5-10 min walk to st ives harbour front with all its facilities and cornish charm.
All in all fantastic hotel in a lovely town, we will definately recommend to friends and family and hopefully visit again soon

we attended a wedding yesterday at this hotel & it was all fantastic from start to finish, helpful staff nice food ( I ate far to much) Beautiful location & affordable luxury. One issue that I will mention is the Lift, It relies upon Hotel guests to close the inner door of the lift when leaving or else the lift will not operate at other levels. Every time We needed to use the lift it would not work as the door was left open on another level, If I were unable to use the stairs to go up and find the lift then close the door My wife would have been a bit stuck. I'm sure that staff would do the walking if i had asked. A new system or new lift would make this hotel much better for elderly or disabled. All said still 10 out of 10 at this hotel and i would recommend it.

Room Tip: Our room 308 was lovelly

Thank you taking the time to write a review so quickly after your visit to the Hotel. I am delighted you enjoyed the whole Harbour Hotel Wedding experience and your stay. The 'old lady' (the lift) is a focal point of the Hotel being that it is so old but I do understand your frustrations if the door has been left open. I hope you will return again to the hotel soon. Kind regards Peter

Cannot fault this hotel. Porter parked car and carried luggage . We had a superior sea view room and it was fantastically luxurious ( no
bath robes though?) . The food was superb. We did a bed breakfast and dinner. The £25 menu
For dinner was excellent and different each night. Breakfast -smoked haddock and poached egg was to die for. Staff were really lovely.
Also made good use of spa -not busy and had pool to ourselves. Even though there was a wedding one day it didn't affect us or quality of service.
Easy walk into St Ives and one day we caught the train to Penzance -great little journey. Very very comfortable and relaxing

Room Tip: Got to be a sea view
