“Beautiful location and grounds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014 via mobile

Stayed here for Valentines weekend, the hotel grounds were so beautiful and proximity to the resort of St Ives excellent if you don't mind a steep walk down through the woodland walk. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good with lots of choice. The room was recently refurbished, the bathroom was so clean and modern, we were on the ground floor which I would have preferred an upstairs room as we paid extra for a sea view, the room was fine but basic but the bed was lovely, very clean and comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay and will be going again. Good value for money, not cheap but worth what we paid.
The views over the bay amazing.

Myself and my partner stayed here for 3 nights in September. Check in was easy and efficient, staff seemed friendly. The room wasn't huge but it was. Rey comfortable, cleaned to very high standards, the bathroom was wonderful! The beds we're comfy, unfortunately our room was above the kitchens, or the back of the kitchens where rubbish etc was taken so it was a little noisier than we would of liked. There were building works happening at the hotel so there was quite a bit of scaffolding around, this is never too appealing.

The gardens were beautiful, my partner loves rabbits so the giant bunny pen was really sweet. What made the stay was the food, it was absolutely delicious!!! I can't express enough how yummy it was! The Cornish mussels were divine! There was a little bar which served drinks till late with a tv with sky and board games which was quite old fashioned but pleasant enough.

I had a pedicure and a massage which was lovely, the staff in the spa were really friendly. I wanted to go into the swimming pool but avoided it due to the constant children in there.

I'd stay again but in a different room at a time when there'd definitely be less children mainly because the relaxing spa and gorgeous cuisine, I'd say it's slightly overpriced.

Room Tip: Avoid staying above the kitchens, get a sea view room!

We spent 2 nights at the Tregenna over half term and will definitely return. Staff were all helpful and the rooms were spacious with lovely sea views. We had adjoining rooms in the Castle.

Parts of the hotel were a little tired but there was clearly work being done. The communal areas are very nice.

The whole stay was great value for money and we will definitely return and recommend to others.

This is not my first time at the tregenna, but cannot help feeling the rooms are getting very tired and the bathrooms in particular really need to be upgraded, I appreciate the charm of this old place, but the rooms are really tired and in need of renovation, did not actually use any hotel services as literally arrived at 5.30 and went into town at 6.15 til late , breakfast was great and could not be faulted.
Just feel this old favourite needs some loving care

Thank you for your review. I am slightly confused by your comments as we have had extensive work done throughout the common areas of the hotel, including new carpets and redecoration. Plus, many of the rooms have been refurbished through a programme of scheduled maintenance, and we plan to continue until all rooms that require attention are completed.

Having read some of the reviews we were pleasantly surprised by our stay at Tregenna Castle. Whilst it is true that parts of the hotel were a little tired and old fashioned there is clearly a refurbishment programme being rolled out. We used a Groupon voucher and thought the hotel provided very good value for money. Our room was comfortable and, along with its bathroom, spotlessly clean. Sadly the hotel was full so we could not upgrade to a sea view but its proximity to the pool and leisure suite, a definite bonus; the pool and jacuzzi heavenly. Breakfast was superb and staff in all areas of the hotel were friendly and helpful. The hotel grounds and nearby St Ives are both beautiful places to spend a weekend. We will definitely return. However beware the potholes in the drive up to the hotel car park!

My boyfriend and I used a Groupon deal for 2 nights in the castle and upgraded to a sea view room. We had such a great experience we would happily go back again at full price.

We stayed a few days before Christmas when there were many functions taking place at the hotel but the staff were still extremely helpful and did not make us feel rushed when checking in or asking questions. The lady on reception who checked us in was very friendly and made us feel really welcome which was nice as we were worried we wouldn't fit in in such a grand place.

We did not see any signs of the hotel being run down. It was very well maintained considering the sixe and age. It has a lot more character than any more modern hotel.

The room was amazing. It was absolutely huge and well equipped and had a separate bathroom with a shower and bath. The view was incredible and looked like a postcard.

We didn't have dinner at the restaurant as my boyfriend is vegan and I'm a fussy vegetarian but we did have the breakfast. This was really good and freshly made with a good variety and they even had vegetarian sausages when I asked.

The grounds are beautiful and very picturesque. The walk down to the town wasn’t far and a taxi up the hill on the way back was not expensive.

There is also a lovely, typical Cornish pub less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel away from the town if you want a quite drink or a cheaper option for food.

I would definitely recommend a stay at Tregenna Castle.

Room Tip: Room Tip: highly recommend upgrading to a sea view room!

My boyfriend and i got a great deal for 2 nights in the castle, we upgraded to a sea view room (highly recommended). The room was lovely amazing view, and comfy, only downfall was the walls are very thin so can hear everything, but this did not ruin our stay. All the staff were friendly and always spoke. Didnt eat in the restaurant as we found it too over priced for what it was. We did buy a drink at the bar, but when it came to almost £10 for 2 drinks we swiftly went to tesco and bought our own. The swimming pool was nice but way to hot for me personally. The breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice, and fresh on both days. We ended the break with a lovely massage, both the girls in castle beauty were lovely and made us both feel very comfortable!
The grounds are beautiful and very picturesque and the walk down to the town isnt too far. Overall lovely place to stay but dont think we would have paid the full price seeing as we got a great deal.

Room Tip: highly recommend upgrading to a sea view room!
