We returned this week after spending 8 nights at the Pednolva. The hotel did accommodate needs for our range of ages,2grandparents,1 daughter&1grandaughter.It was relaxing, very near the shops & eateries & of course beach also the heated pool [although fairly small] was used by everyone in our party. The views are the main attraction to the hotel. Our room was at the furthest point of the hotel, with a window overlooking Porthminster beach& from the bathroom, the harbour beach.
At high tide waves crash onto the rocks directally under the windows!.
Seals are seen-if you're lucky in the water below[we saw one from our window]
Rooms are quite small, but we had been advised beforehand,as it was an old compact building built out on rocky peninsular.
Breakfasts were adequate if you ordered cooked food, but the cold buffet was very basic, even the fresh fruit salad consisted mainly of apple, also fresh bread or rolls would have been nice.We had to ask for skimmed milk as a dietry requirement, this took 24hrs.to appear!Cooked food either came too quick--before cereals were finished,or had to wait a while.
Most of the staff were pleasant, but we felt lack of staff training was to blame for most of the 'niggles'.As it has been mentioned in other reviews the reception staff need to be more pleasant, after all they represent the hotel on arrival and in 'passing' during your stay.
We tended to feel that we were treated like one of the throngs of public that came through the doors every day for meals/drinks etc.not guests that had payed extortionate prices for their stay.
Everywhere was clean with very comfy beds, and we had many bar meals that were very good & nicely presented.
The terrace for drinks was very pleasant overlooking the beach,it's a pity it closed early evening!.Again the bar staff seemed to struggle with getting orders done, maybe a shortage of staff.
All in all it wasn't a disaster,& we did enjoy our holiday, but felt that for the tarrifs they charge they need to iron out the few 'niggles' & then it would be a first class hotel,& who knows we may even return, although we did have a very long train journey to get there.I think the parking can be a problem but again the hotel can book advanced spaces in the nearest carpark at the station directally opposite the hotel.
