We booked our stay for 8 people, split into 4 rooms, as a last minute decision and I'm so glad we chose Pedn Olva. We've stayed in St. Ives many times in the past but always rented a holiday let for the week. This visit we stayed for two nights and wondered why we'd never stayed here before!

From the outside, the hotel does look like it needs a bit of an update, paintwork and signage wise but its in a perfect location, just sitting on a rocky outcrop between Porthminister Beach and the Harbour. Perfect!

Once you get inside the hotel is warm and staff are friendly. There's a boutique feel in the restaurant/bar area and panoramic views of the deep blue sea! Our rooms varied, we had two standard doubles and two twins, all were clean and comfortable, 3 out of 4 had the most magnificent, unobstructed views, if you were any closer to the sea, you'd be in it! Unfortunately one of the doubles had a view of the terrace but you could see the harbour just about. I would say here that some rooms are located outside the hotel, meaning a short walk down some exterior staircases to get to them, not a problem in summer but it may not be preferable in the cold winter months!

The rooms are clean and 'compact' but it adds to the cosiness of the hotel. Double beds are more of a small double but sheets were soft and comfortable. Decor is pleasant so nothing to really comment on here.

The breakfast room is positioned with a stunning view over Porthminister beach and is a wonderful place to bask in the morning sun whilst you enjoy your food. The menu isn't extensive but has enough choice and was decent. No morning lie ins if you we're wondering, breakfast is served between 8-9.30am.

We ate out both nights with the hotel being only a 2minute walk into the town.

Our rooms were very well priced, the hotel was running a promotion, standard rooms £79 per night, as it wasn't peak season. Overall we we very pleased with our stay and would love to go back in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms located inside the hotel, also it's worth mentioning you'd like a sea view, al...

just stayed for 2 nights with my wife enjoyed the stay except for the room it was just about a single room with a 4 foot 6 inch bed and a very small shower room en suite we paid over £100 per night on a deal..but very dissapointed with the room for that amount.
the food was excellent but tell your friends to make sure they get a decent 5foot bed and en suite
which is the least you should expect.
the food ,service, and the views were very good.

Room Tip: ask for 5 foot double room with good size en-suite when booking

I really really enjoyed my stay at Pedn Olva. The view from my room was amazing - just water crashing on to rocks straight down! Eye-to-eye with the sea birds, and looking back to the harbour. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly. The food in particular was excellent and extremely good value as half board only cost about £10 extra over B&B, but if I'd bought a 3 course meal every night it would have cost a lot more than that. The room was very comfortable with a warm duvet and excellent tea and biscuits (which make all the difference when arriving on a cold and windy day). The location is perfect.Right in between two large gold beaches, perched on the cliff. I didn't use the pool (outside and it was winter) so I cannot comment on this.

My husband and I visited St. Ives in July with family friends from Germany, family of four with two lovely teenagers. We naturally wanted to show off the best of the UK. We arrived in St. Ives by the little train, to enhance the experience and took a walk around the harbour, main and back streets, visiting the galleries/shopping etc. It began to rain; it was only early evening 5.45 ish, we though we would call in somewhere for a sit down and a coffee. Two establishments on the front turned us away because of the close proximity to evening meal customers. Welcome to Britian I thought, what a negative impression. Undaunted, we explored the by ways leading up the hill and were fortunate to come across Pedn Olva...I did a quick rekki, asking the bar staff whether as non residents we would we welocme and was reassured that we would. I Beckoned the weary travellers making their way up the hill (we had resigned ourselves to catching the next train) We were shown to the most marvellous seating area, overlooking St. Ives. It had a wow factor without pretentions. We went on to enjoy a relaxed happy reunion with good friends, enjoying an extended tapas style of eating for several hours which was so accommodating of the lovely bar staff. Timed perfectly for the last train! Value for money all considered. So glad the others' could not accommodate us as we would not have found this gem. To be recommended.

Room Tip: n/a as did not stay but it looked comfortable, tasteful and contemporary with plenty of staff. In my...

We stayed at Pedn Olva in December 2011. Perhaps the hotel has made improvements since our stay, but when we visited, the hotel did not live up to expectations. The room was the smallest I have ever stayed in, and was cold. The balcony area (shared) was a real disappointment - utilitarian and unwelcoming, with flaking paint and soggy green felt carpet. There was no view from the room, due to a metal partition on the balcony which obscured any view from the room. The Christmas decorations in the public areas were sorry-looking and looked as though they are dragged out year after year, and placed haphazardly. The food was unmemorable. However, the hotel occupies an enviable position on the cliffs, and once you are outside, the views are gorgeous. St Ives is a wonderful place to stay - we loved Barbara Hepworth's house and garden, and Tate St Ives. We would not return to Pedn Olva.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a proper view. Avoid the shared balcony rooms.
