Myself my wife and 18 month son decided to stay at the hotel over the recent bank holiday weekend. The hotel looked fantastic when we booked using the web. Unfortunately the truth is that the hotel is in need of an update. The room was very small and again was not up to the price that we paid. When we arrived we asked for a cot but none was available which resulted in me sleeping on the floor without a matress. That was our fault as we booked last minute but the staff did little to help, except look rather puzzeled.

The location of the hotel is great and the food was quite good, but not outstanding.

I think next year we will return to the Primrose Valley in St Ives which is cheaper and is truely is something special.

Unbeatable location on small children friendly beach in small secluded bay. Very steep hill to access but adequate parking
available in all but highest season (residents free, £3/day for general public). Maybe getting a bit over-developed up the hill near the train station (5mins to St Ives).

Hotel has not got better over the years although money has been spent on it and surrounding properties.
Food fairly good but deteriorating somewhat over the years.
Staff service a bit patchy and inpersonal. Not all that 'children friendly' (restrictions) for a goodish 3 star hotel getting a bit above its station.
Owners 'children' do not appear to ahere to standards expected
of guests children.

Rooms a bit tired and in need of some attention. Cleanliness reasonable but not exceptional.
Outdoor pool with sheltered area.

Very very pricy for what you get as a total package but location
maybe makes up for it.

We were really looking forward to coming to this hotel having visited Carbis Bay Beach for many years. However our room (208) was basically a single room with a double bed (you could touch the bed from the toilet!!) with no-where to put our small travel bags we had to climb over them each day to get out the door (not ideal in a fire). I left some clothes behind in a side drawer and have just made my forth call to get them back - happy to pay the postage for my own stupid mistake - I chased up again two weeks on to see where they were. I spoke to the owner who said "Not to worry I'm sure they'll get to you eventually"!!
Unfortunately with this level of customer service both during and after our stay, we won't be returning. This hotel relies heavily on its location and sees no reason to put in effort because of this.

My wife and I were in great need of a winter break, so we took advantage of a special promotion being offered by Saga magazine (always a good read, by the way, even if you are not in the "over 50" bracket). We chose a three-day stay comprising half-board accommodation, and sensibly we paid a supplement for a sea-view superior room. We had a little trepidation after reading some of the reviews on this site, but having been there now for our first visit we feel that some of the criticisms were a little harsh and unjustified - at least in our experience. Maybe things are a bit different in the height of summer.

The room we had was a really large twin with a comfortable settee and two large single beds. There was also a large TV with just the four main channels, and although the bathroom was fairly small it was really nice - a bath tub, which I love, and a really powerful shower over, the bathroom being fully tiled all over.

The conservatory and lounge area in the hotel was very nice, but could at times get a bit noisy (wedding parties and the like). It did, however, cost £5 for a pot of tea or coffee for two in there. The high spot for us was the food at dinnertime, which was really excellent, though I felt the desserts fell a little short of the standard of the starters and main meals. Breakfast was fairly reasonable (but no sausages available?)

Weather was not great, but what can you expect in late November? For us it was a wonderful weekend of self-indulgence and relaxation. We will cerainly go back.

We do feel that some of your negative reviews must be out of date. This was our first visit and hopefully we shall be staying there again. The food was really excellent, service good. Yes, the rooms are not large but were clean and wholesome. Our side sea room gave us a good view of beach and the sea. As in most hotels bathrooms could do with more shelf space. We must say that we had booked this hotel before reading all the complaints made against it and we set off wondering exactly what to expect. It was all a most pleasant surprise.
