Guess what, this hotel is in a great place, and has car parking. We stayed on a B&B basis. We had a huge sea facing room, great shower and very good breakfasts. What more do you need. You don't get all the attention of the usual hotel - they kind of let you get on; which was great for us. Would definitely recommend & good value too.

Yet again I went on holiday with HF Holidays, a walking holiday based at Chy Morvah in beautiful ST Ives, Cornwall. The room was very good, and clean. House management was excellent. Catering was of excellent quality and massive quantity. (You cannot go on a walikng holiday with HF and lose weight!) Walking leaders- 3 lovely individuals. Social times in the evenings were great fun. I also enjoyed all the walking in the beautiful region of West Penarth and in addition made the most of St Ives with its artistic history. The Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Gardens are well worth a visit.

If you are fit and active, this is a good place to stay. It is a 10 minute steep uphill climb from the St. Ives station / western end of the town, or alternatively you can climb some steep steps to the back of the house. Most people were on a HF walking holiday. This involved 3 different levels of walk each day. It's not made clear in the brochure just how challenging the 'Easier' walks are. Our first 6 hour Easier walk, towards Zennor, was Extremely strenous, up steep rocky coastal paths, with huge boulders and very uneven areas to negotiate. Walking poles and boots were invaluable. Several people had falls. The return walk involved about a dozen very tricky stiles composed of randomly-placed rocks.
We were pleased with our twin room (number 33) at Chy Moorvah, in the main building (not the upgraded Lanyons) and it was good compared with some of the others. It is conveniently situated just off the lounge and had a lovely sea view through the trees. It is a reasonable size, with a biggish bathroom (no bath, but a good shower) but we could have done with more drawer and table-top space. I would give it 3 stars rather than the 4 it possesses. No mini bar / fridge nor safe in the rooms, but a small TV and a hairdryer are provided. There was a small outdoor pool with sun loungers.
The food was plentiful, with a good choice each day, and the company was excellent. Enjoyable evening activities were provided by the 3 walk leaders: Call My Bluff, Dancing, Quiz, etc.
The house manager, Gabriella, who was enthusiatic and cheerful, went on holiday halfway through the week. Bruce stood-in for her, but found running the business slightly more challenging, leading to our being left behind on one of the trips.
Board games and books were available for use in the Ball Room (off the Dining room) but we didn't discover these until near the end of our stay!
St Ives is a delightful picturesque town and staying at the top of a hill certainly kept us fit!

Room Tip: Room 33, a twin room in the main building, was an ideal room for us. It has a sea view downhill thro...

Run by HFHolidays, Chy Morvah also provides Freedom Breaks, where you can stay for 3 or 4 nights and choose whether or not to join the walks. The house is just ten minutes walk (downhill) into the Centre of St Ives, and the company of the others staying there was great. This is a good way to stay if you want to have some time on your own and time with others.

I went on a bridge and sightseeing holiday with The Holiday Fellowship. First time in Cornwall and first Holiday Fellowship trip. Chy Morvah is owned by the Holiday Fellowship and although it has many of the facilities of any 4 star hotel it does not have a reception desk or an officious manager! It is a wonderful place. Beautifully sitting on the hill overlooking St Ives with a wonderful view of the sea. The hotel has lovely rooms but the best thing was the food. Plenty of choice, everything well presented and lots of lovely locally caught fish.

We all mingled and the large round tables enabled everyone to get to know each other.

Gabriella is the manager and is charming. In an unobtrusive way she made sure that everything ran smoothly

The gardens were lovely. Palm trees and plenty of seats to sir on in the shade. And the swimming pool was idyllic in the hot weather. We were even able to do water aerobics thanks to one of the American guests.

A nice touch was a cream tea on our arrival. There is a bar and we had tea or coffee after dinner every night

Room Tip: If you want a view of the sea ask for one.Better not to be above the dustbins!

Simple but Comfortable hotel at top,of hill. Very pretty garden with lovely sea views and small outdoor pool. Close to town centre - via a steep uphill walk! Nice dining room and good breakfast. Good facilities - wifi, bar, putting green!

Room Tip: Get a room with sea view!

My husband and I spent a week in St Ives at HF house Chy Morvah. I was on a painting week and he was walking. The atmosphere at the hotel is very welcoming and the room we had (33) had a great sea view. The bathroom was fine with power shower. The breakfasts, lunches and dinners were all excellent with a choice of 3-4 starters, mains and dessert each evening. They also provide a packed lunch, which you choose, for those on all day walks or activities. The painting tuition was great, very friendly crowd of people, too many on our week - but we managed. The walks are graded and explained the night before so you can choose easy, medium or hard. All the transport to painting or walking venues is provided - and there is so much to see and do in St Ives. The Minack theatre is not far away and an evening visit was arranged for us. Wonderful location with the sea as backdrop.
