This is my first review so you must excuse me if I do not come straight to the point.
Took my wife out to lunch in one of the few places we have never visited in Cornwall, namely Port Issac, a quaint fishing village on the North Cornish Coast. We ended at the Slipway Restaurant just off the causeway, down at the harbour.
I cannot fault the young lady who served me at the bar or took our order. She was polite, courteous and very professional - it's just a shame that the food wasn't up to her standard.
We arrived at the end of lunch service with 10 minutes to spare due to the rain and quickly ordered chicken served on baguette with rocket side salad, pomme frites and aioli with saffron. (We didn't expect to see chairs stacked on the tables ready for the floor to be hoovered , but one can understand if the day had been long and everyone wants a break then this would be the most expedient thing to do just a shame there sere still guests in the restaurant !)
This is not the hardest dish in the world -a home made glorified mayonnaise with French fries and grilled chicken with salad. However, if it wasn't for the fact that the fries were warm and cooked , the whole dish would have been a disaster. and as my wife said " there's absolutely no passion in this at all."
The chicken was cold, and had not been stood under a hot plate for at least 20 minutes. The " aioli" was watered down which is acceptable as a dressing on the salad but not as the accompaniment to the chicken. It was billed as "saffron aioli" which would be fine if it had any and I have the strongest suspicion that it was just watered down mayonnaise from the worlds largest manufacturer. The rocket salad was drowned in dressing and the baguette was soggy.
All this I could have forgiven if it wasn't for the ghetto blaster. What ghetto blaster? The one blasting out from the kitchen.! I fully realise that the chefs need to unwind after service and prep for the evening menu, but the only track they didn't play in there " thrash and bash half hour" was Slipknot ! . If someone had taken the time to ask them to dial it back a coupe of notches then the whole lunch service for everyone could have been a little more enjoyable. Overall. a thoroughly uninspiring time and a shame because if someone took a hold on this situation, with a few small tweaks and a little T.L.C the whole experience could be
so much more enjoyable.
