Stayed at the Slipway with my wife and two young sons on August Bank Holiday Monday night.
We reserved a suite (Room 11) which had a family bedroom with one double and 2 single beds, a separate sitting room with TV and a neat bathroom with bath and overhead shower. The rooms were converted within the attic so headroom was a luxury, although this added to the overall charm of the place.
The rooms were clean and the bedroom showed signs of having been recently redecorated and furnished, the bathroom was, I would suspect, almost brand new and gleamingly white and fresh.
The view from the small picture window in the sitting room overlooked the harbour and there was usually a bit of a scrum to get to spend some time there watching the world go by outside.
Port Isaac is picture post card, a quaint fishing village with narrow winding streets and white washed cottages and ragged coastline. The coastal walk is easily accessible but is quite steep and difficult in parts.
A good excuse to return to the village and relax either on the slipway itself, which seems to attract a lot of the local Inns’ customers, or inside where the views can still be enjoyed from the comfort of the bar.
One tip, DO NOT attempt to drive into the village unless you have to, it’s very tight and only single car width in parts with two way traffic. The public car park at the top of the hill is a 5 – 10 minute walk although spaces are a rarity especially on a Bank Holiday weekend.
We ate at the Slipway restaurant in the evening and had a very pleasant evening and great meal, the service was prompt and polite and all plates were returned clean. It wasn’t as busy as I would have thought but I don’t think this was any reflection on the hotel or restaurant if our meal was anything to go by.
Breakfast the following morning was also very good with a selection of cereals, juices, fruit and a hot dish menu.
All in all very good, very comfortable and a beautiful part of the world.
If I have a complaint it would be the cost of staying here, not just at the Slipway, we also checked out the Old School and the price for a similar room was comparable. I suppose the fame of TV has nudged the pricing upwards but it is certainly worth a visit.
