“Could be so much better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2011

We were really looking forward to coming back to port isaac after spending 2 weeks in the past couple of years in self catering accommodation. We stayed in the 'music' room which I would not recommend as in port Isaac I am sure that you want to see the harbour. This room has zero views although in the summer there is a shared terrace.
The rooms very noisy! There is a suite above you with very squeaky floorboards and very thin Walls. Rather spoils the tranquillity of the room and area.
We will not be coming back as for such a fantastic place the owners seem to be more interested in money than appropriate services for money.

We stayed for 1 night in the Maths Room. Didn't want to go home. We were greeted on arrival by a very friendly member of staff who showed us to our room which was absolutely stunning. Beautiful views across the harbour. Tea and coffee making facilities were excellent. Breakfast was lovely with very helpful waitresses. We stayed for Sunday lunch which was also lovely and served boiling hot. Wished we could have stayed longer. The only downside was the early morning alarm clock of the seagulls, but that gave us more time to explore!

Stayed here in the History Room in September. Room small, characterless, cramped and little storage space. Could not stand upright in the shower which had no curtain. Shaver light did not work. Extractor fan extremely noisy.

Long wait for breakfast after the order was taken.
Scrambled egg was sat in a pool of liquid which I drained off on to the side plate.
The "Full English" sat in a pool of cooking oil which destroyed the taste.
Nobody asked if we were satisfied.

Not worth £25 per night let alone £110.

This place is living on it's televison connection and lack of competition.

Would not return or recommend any one else to stay.

Nobody on reception when we left.

Should have complained vehemently, but did not want to spoil my day.

Room Tip: Choose somewhere else

I had a lovely weekend and enjoyed Port Isaac and the surrounding area very much. The location of this hotel is perfect and the staff very friendly, however I found the state of the (Physics) room very disappointing.

The main issue I had with the room was how outdated the decor was. In fact the best thing about it was the shower. The location of the toilet roll isn't fit for purpose apart from perhaps shoulder dislocation. I noticed there was no heated towel rail in the bathroom either so it must be freezing in the colder months.

The room itself was very tired, with an unsightly corner full of sockets. It is nice to have a mirror but when the cord of the hairdryer isn't long enough to reach it, and it's stuck over in a corner away from natural light on a cupboard that will probably never be used it may as well not be there.

The bed was reasonably comfortable although I think the pillows were leftover pancakes from breakfast the day before and the rubbish underneath the bed un-necessary and unsightly. Speaking of breakfast I also waited half an hour for my order of eggs & bacon & they weren't even that busy.

There was no privacy in the room but that can't be helped although I would have preferred the area outside my windows was only a carpark and not also a serving area for the restaurant! I also could have done without the spiders and cobwebs and feel that if the room was less cluttered this would be easier to keep on top of.

Most of all, I felt ripped off. To charge £60 pounds for this room is bordering on criminal, I commented as soon as I was shown it and the response was "Port Isaac is expensive". I have stayed in B&B's and hotels all over the country and have never felt ripped off before. This room is worth not a penny more than £40 with breakfast, £30 in low season if they could get anyone in there with the inadequate heating. To respond by saying Port Isaac is expensive doesn't make the best impression and there are examples of better value for money in the local area.

I will definitely be returning to Port Isaac but unfortunately will be looking elsewhere for accommodation.

Room Tip: If you're travelling solo and want a single room or double for single use, go elsewhere!
