“OK Food - cliquey atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Not bad standard pub grub, but service lets it down. Bar staff uninterested, definitely a 'locals get priority' place as we were left waiting whilst several others were served.
Sadly the advertised beer garden with views, was nothing more than a very scruffy dog toilet.
A few businesses in Polperro have this can't be bothered attitude, one assumes they make their money easily from a gullible tourist market.

“Excellent rating for food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

A couple we met while we experiencing our worst ever roast meal in a pub in Looe recommended we try The Three Pilchards. The next day we caught the bus to Polperro and went for a late afternnon meal and were not disappointed. Yes, maybe the barman could have been a little more welcoming but the food is well worth the visit. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and topped with scallops, king prawns and gambas prawns accompanied by a lovely fresh side salad. My hubby's jacket potato was delicious! At around £17.50 each, we certainly got our money's worth. As a pub it is a bit tired looking and could maybe do with a spruce up but we love the rustic feel and would definitely return.
I agree with the comment about the beer garden, though. For something that is advertised outside as somewhere to sit and enjoy panoramic views of Polperro, perhaps a little more attention could be paid to it. Also, regular checks should be scheduled as we reported some 'doggy gifts' that needing cleaning up and the barman looked less than thrilled at the prospect of doing so!

“Reasonable pub for lunch and a beer, needs improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

We popped into the Three Pilchards more or less by chance when out walking the coast path and it started raining heavily. We were surprised as we arrived at lunchtime to see several of the staff leaving the pub! Inside the pub is quite old fashioned, and could do with some renovation, a good clean up would help.

The bar man was obviously bored with his job, and not much interested, but had a fair selection of draft beers available.

We ordered some bacon baguettes for lunch, which were huge, tasty and well presented with some nice salad etc. We would have done better to order sandwiches, as there was far too much bread, at least for us.

Overall I thought that this pub had potentially plenty of character, and was well situated in Polperro. It needs a good tidy/clean up, perhaps some renovation. They also need some staff who are better motivated; as the service I rate as plain average, which is not good enough considering how competitive the market is in this tourist hot spot.

“A Great Shame”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013 via mobile

Having visited Polperro all my life, its a shame that this pub has become one to walk past. It really has gone downhill fast over the last few years. The main reasons?

1-Staff. Not engaging, spend too much time outside smoking when they should have the pride to pick up a cloth and clean

2-Cleanliness. Its a mess (see point 1)

3-Beer Garden. Could be idyllic if the landlord invested a few quid, but its a dump. Views are great, but for gods sake brush it once in a while.

In summary. Tim, if you dont invest in customers, they wont invest in you.

No people = No atmosphere = No ringing till

Get some new staff (who have personality) and close for one day to give the place a clean

“Avoid. Not good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013 via mobile

Not impressed went for a drink and meet by the barman outside smoking. When we went in there was a dog sat on a table which nobody seemed bothered about. Not great hygiene when serving food, we wont be going back.
