“Brilliant backpackers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

Stayed for 4 nights. Very clean rooms, very clean bathroom. Amazingly comfy couches in the common room area. Clean and well stocked kitchen. Central, short walk down to the sea, easy to find. Wifi worked perfectly. Matt is a really great host, friendly, helpful, he's running a lovely place. Also very affordable!

Thanks for a great stay!

I have been going to Penzance for years and its a fantastic little town. After staying in b&b's in the area and feeling ripped off I decided to stay here it was my first hostel and still the best its always clean, warm and welcoming and a well equipped kitchen. Over the last few years the guy running the place has made many improvements redecorating all the rooms, new carpets and now has the FRee wifi working in all the rooms. the staff are very helpful and seem to go out of their way to help.

Lovely little place, is only small but has everything you'd need. Has a great kitchen, a nice lounge area (looks recently painted so was nice and bright, and the internet worked in there).. The room was bright and clean, the people running the place were v friendly and full of local info. Definitely would go back if in the PZ area again - great!

I stayed here for one night during my walk on the south west coast path but I can´t say that I enjoyed it. After walking for nine hours in brilliant weather the only thing I wanted was a shower but that didn´t happen. I couldn´t get the shower to work so I had to ask one of the other girls in the room to help me but she didn´t manage either. It was also a bit disappointing that I couldnt wash my laundry there and the room was too small to have 7 beds. The guy who worked there was nice enough but that didn´t really make up for the other negative things.

Largely clean, and staff very willing to help. I stayed in a large dorm which had far too many beds in it and no storage space. Ensuite bathroom was a problem with 7 girls sharing. Ideally I would have liked the place to have had larger communal bathrooms rather than ensuites. Plenty of parking along the road outside, great kitchen with everything you need and lots of food storage space. Lounge was a bit dark and dreary - as a result everyone gathered in the kitchen which was also the only place the wireless would work so it did get a bit crowded. Halfway to being a brilliant hostel.

We were a relatively respectable stag party, mainly in our 30s, and we had two nights refuge at PZ backpackers. The advance admin was helpful and flexible, and the room - 4 sets of two bunks with en suite shower and basin unit - was ideal. Some touches of d-i-y- about the plumbing and decor, but end-of season maintenance is due soon. Although facing the street there was no noise at all, yet we were within 10 minutes walk of most parts of the town and harbour. Five minutes brisk walk from a cashpoint and Co-op. We used the communal kitchen one morning, and found it well-equipped and convenient, though at rush hours it could have been crowded. Ok, a rowdy group could have spoiled things, but that's hard to avoid. All in all, this hostel is distinctly in the upper half of the 'backpackers' scale.
