We read all the reviews so thought we'd try this on the last night of our recent holiday. There was a nice atmosphere and it was quite busy so we were very hopeful for a good meal. The starter was a shared tasting plate with various seafood and cheese. It was unusual, and there was rather a lot of cheese. But the seafood, what there was of it, was nice. For the mains we tried the crab cakes, and the tomato and olive tart. Neither of us could detect a hint of crab, or anything other than potato in the crab cake, and the tart turned out to be a square of puff pastry with tomato sauce spread on it, and cheese. Quite disappointing!

Thank you for re-submitting your review. As I previously stated your-feed back is of great importance to us at Mackerel Sky Cafe.
Thank-you for complimenting the nice atmosphere, It is something that we work hard to try and achieve. I'm glad that you liked the sea-food on the tasting board and i understand that you found the selection of cheeses a little too much. I have no problem with substitutions on our tasting board, if you are not a fan, then an item can exchanged, no extra charge or problem.
I'm sorry to hear that you could not find a hint of crab in the crab cakes, this is probably because I have never had a crab cake/s on the menu. We do however have a smoked haddock and bacon fishcake with soft poached Treen farm organic egg. I'm afraid i don't put crab in this fishcake, so i can understand why you couldn't find a hint of crab and were subsequently disappointed.
The slow roasted tomato tart with black olives and Cornish brie, always comes with 7 hour slow roasted local tomatoes, i can only apologise if it wasn't to your liking.
At Mackerel Sky strive to give the best customer service and food, if you are unhappy, it is advisable to alert someone and dishes will be replaced with the minimum amount of fuss and distress...... even phantom crab cakes.
Thank-you for taking the time to resubmit you review after the first review you submitted was removed for breaching Trip advisor guidelines. I must add a note of caution however in that it takes a life time of hard work to build a good reputation but only a few flippant and inaccurate comments to ruin one.
Many Thanks Bill,
Chef Owner Mackerel Sky Cafe Penzance.
