“Fantastic location, super apartments, great holiday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2011

We are still here having the best holidayinthe uk ever! The apartment is lovely with everything you need like at home. The master bedroom upstairs is amazing with huge velux windows that open right out to the beach and ocean. Balcony at the front in perfect for dining al fresco on sunny evenings.
Being located right on the beach means you spend the whole day there and can swim as much as you like (so longs syou have wetsuits!) because You can come inside for hot shower or Bath after!
You can hire everything you need for surfing, bodyboarding, wetsuits, sun beds etc down here from Steve the guy running the surf hire shop at reasonable prices.
We are lucky to have Internet as we ares in the end apartment (lamorna) so are picking up Kahuna's wifi though next time we come (and we are already planning our next trip maybe even in Aug this year) we are going to book up the other end or in the next blockaded are directly over the Venus cafe which although is not noisy, there is just lots of people sitting down there right under and in front of our balcony so they are part of our view and also can see right into our apartment so you have to be really careful being covered up (clothes wise!)

There's a really good restaurant called Kahuna run by Kelly and Ryan which does delicious food at mid price range. The 'organic' Venus restaurant underneath us is just a cafe Really and we havnt had anything from there at all as it just seems like normal greasy spoon stuff and the lone girl running it is moody!

You can walk to Newquay town across the sand when the tide slow which is nice, walk the other way to Lusty Glaze beach which is an outdoor adventure beach with a zip wire, rat run up the cliff in and out of obstacles, absailing and Lots of other stuff too. The kids will love it!

All in all it is a perfect location, we have been super lucky with the weather, have not stopped body boarding, had such a fab time we don't want to leave but, we'll be back!!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are probably good

This weekend I arrived with eleven other guys for a stag weekend staying in the surf shacks from Friday through to Sunday. We drove from Southend on Sea, Essex and after an immensely long journey the sight that greeted us made the whole thing worth while. The beach is fantastic and the view is breathtaking.

The surf shacks lacked a power supply point but all of us agreed that they were warm, quiet and the mattresses were extremely comfy. These are a lot more solid than photos would have you believe. More than enough storage for a short stay.

The shower and toilet facilities were basic but clean, functional and welcome after braving a cold surf in the sea. Waking up to the sound and sight of the sea on your doorstep in the morning makes any slight deficiencies pale into insignificance.

The staff have been very helpful and friendly throughout the stay. The service for food and drinks has been very good, although priced a little more than expected. The site security is especially good. We were made to feel welcome, cared for and secure all throughout our stay.

We surfed, went go-karting, had bbq on beach and arranged VIP entry to Koola Club. Everything is on the doorstep, the surfing and bbq part of the same complex. Parking is an issue but speaking to the staff soon overcame this.

In all it was a brilliant weekend and we cannot thank the staff at Tolcarne enough for their hospitality. Cheers guys.

My friend and I were in charge of organising a hen do for our best friend. She was determined to go surfing so googles Newquay and saw an advert for this place.
When we arrived the place was immaculate and the staff were brilliantly friendly. When we go to our room to lady explained there had been a problem with a broke sofa bed, they had replaced it and given us complimentary wine!!
There were 11 girls staying in an 8 bed and a 4 bed apartment, only problem would be the space in some of the rooms but perfect for a few nights!!!
Great location for clubbing and shopping in Newquay and of course the awesome beach which the apartments sit on.
Security was high which made 11 ladies feel really safe!!

Thank you, would consider re booking for next year now!!!

Stayed in two bed apartment for 5 nights, loved it so much extended stay for another 2 nights. We moved to 3 bed apartment for last 3 nights. Everything about our stay was perfect. Accommodation first class with views to die for! The view is never the same and is mesmerizing, from high tide to low tide, the crashing roaring waves, the surfers... absolutely fantastic. We spent a lot of time at the apartment and on the balcony or beach, even preferring to eat at home rather than eat out.
Ideal location for seeing cornwall by car but also for walking along the many beaches Newquay has to offer. Very picturesque.
Access not a problem for us. Part of the lane down is narrow and the drive down was a bit scary at first. There is parking before the narrow part if preferred.
Staff efficient and helpful and look after the holiday homes brilliantly.
We visited cornwall after doing a tour of south coast including southampton, bournemouth, torquay. We much preferred cornwall and loved Newquay in particular. Small town but with everything you could need.
One tiny thing I did miss was not having a wok to cook with. kitchen extremely well equipped other than that!
Will definitely stay again, just wish it wasn't a six hour car ride away!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2011

We visited here on a very very chilly weekend in January, staying in a 3 bed apartment with two other couples.

Positive points:
- Amazing location - truly splendid view - literally a stones throw from all the tackiness that newquay has to offer, yet completely away from it all in a tranquil and beautiful beach.
- Nice decor - modern beach chic.
- Nicely laid out - with large(ish) living area and two big windows/doors to access the balcony
- An absolute bargain off season price (£60 a night).
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Master bedroom beautiful, spacious and airy.

Negative points:
- Those who aren't quite as fit won't like the steps up/down the cliff, although can be remedied by driving up/down. This was a very very narrow road, and not sure I'd like to do it peak season.
- Parking at the bottom seemed a bit hap-hazard, and given that there were only two apartments occupied when we were there I'd hate to see what its like when its busy!
- Apartment really wasn't clean AT ALL when we arrived. Bins full of the last people's stuff, and needed a good hoover to get rid of masses of dust and sand. You need to clean up after your stay, and perhaps we got unlucky with the previous guests not being very good at that. Owners probably need to be a bit more eagle-eyed to check cleaning has been done.
- Other two bedrooms VERY small twin rooms. Lovely and everything, just not room to swing a cat. Fine for kiddies, not too good for grownups!
- Bit of a shame (although of course not the accommodations fault) that the restaurant (Kahuna) was shut for the winter season. Would have liked to have tried it.
- Could have done with a freezer (or at least an ice box). Where does one store ice cubes for a nice cocktail on the terrace?!

Where to go for a romantic birthday in the UK in February with large dog? Try Tolcarne they said.....great for the dog on the beach. Ok, thats him fixed.
What about the romance? Well picture this.....a two story building ten yards from a pristine beach, ground floor with high quality light oak dining furniture, two big comfy settees, flat screen TV and DVD player, excellent fitted kitchen with all the bits and bobs
Two sets of double glazed doors opening to a large balcony with outdoor furniture and a marvellous view of the surf.
Incidently there was an intriguing bathroom with hot water in the cistern flushing the toilet.....no it wasn't a bidet!
On the first floor was a very large ensuite bedroom with king size bed fitted with luxury linen and top quality pillows. There was also a large comfy settee.
But best of all there were two velux windows which opened to make mini balconies. A great touch.
The whole property is very stylish, warm and draught free.
In a nutshell both the location and the accommodation are world class.
Who runs the place? Well its family owned and run in rather a sensible way, Dad spends quite a lot of time fly fishing whilst mum I think, looksafter the family. This means that the day to day management and guest care is left to daughter Kate helped by sister Rosie and other very nice ladies. They conduct a dailiy hospitality masterclass. Nothing is too much trouble.
So if you seek winter romance or relaxing days away with family or friends I know this place is as good as it gets.

I booked this trip as a last minute break for my Family (2 young children and wife) and we did it based on the fantastic reviews on Tripadvisor!! and I have to say that I agree with every single one......This place is amazing and worth every penny to sit there on an evening with a glass of wine and listen to the waves is an experience in itself!!!
The Bungalow is only 3 star but that adds to the experience as it is very much shabby chic which when you have 2 young children (4 and 1) then you are not to fussed that they are climbing all over the furntiure....
The Bungalow though is amazing and we will be booking it again for next year at the same time as well worth it.
Now on to the road............If you dont feel confident dont go down but I drive a Lexus which is a fairly large car and I had no problem whatsoever getting up and down the road...BUT we I did send the other half upto te top to make sure nobody was going either way, this is very good advice as you would not want to start REVERSING!!!
All in all a fantstic trip and the cream tea was superb!!!
