So a bunch of us wanted somewhere to stay in Newquay for one night and my mate booked this up a few days in advance.
The staff were very nice and the bedding was spotless.... but those were the only good bits.
Their website looked good and the rates were ok - £20 pppn for one night, or cheaper if you stay longer - but I felt it turned out to be a little misleading in terms of the standards it looked like we could expect when we got there.
They were clear that they didn't provide towels or breakfast, so no surprises on that front, but for £20 a night just for a bed and a bathroom I was at least expecting it to be clean.
Our bath was really dirty - bleach and cleaning were not its friend, it seems - and as for the shower, it was cold and I have seen dripping taps give more water. The whole bathroom looked like it hadn't been touched since the 70s, with yellowing lino and a mouldy artex ceiling.
The windows in our room were double glazed but didn't open, and in my mate's room they were wooden framed and rotten. Needless to say, with at least 4 people sleeping on one room on bunkbeds, by the morning there was a lot of condensation.
Overall, I got the impression that either the place was newly taken over by someone who hadn't yet started doing it up, or was being run to make the most profit by someone spending as little as possible on it.
However, to be fair to it, it is in a great location with its own carpark, the staff are very friendly and the sheets are clean, so if all you need is literally somewhere to sleep, pee and have a cold shower then it's fine, although I think you could probably find somewhere cheaper AND cleaner for your money.
If the owners invested in a lick of paint, hired some cleaners, sorted out the windows and bathrooms it would be a real winner. They were lovely people and I wish them luck.
