“Holywell Bay - Parkdean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Just returned from a 2 week holiday at this park and felt that it was quite cramped and noisy.
Our caravan was ok had everything we needed but was not very clean.
The on-site shop was good for all the essentials bread, milk etc.
Clubhouse was busy and a few times we were unable to get a table - so get there early!!
The outside pool was ok but I have to say that it was pretty cold, kids enjoyed the waterslide. There are no toilets or showers by the pool which was a pain as we all had to troop back to the caravan to get showered.
There is a very small arcade area but a lot of the times my children went there (to play the 2p machines) they were out of order.
We were overlooking the play area and this was noisy on a number of occasions late into the night with older children screaming and shouting - not sure if this was patrolled or not.
The beach which is a flat 5/10 minutes walk away is fantastic, great surf, lifeguards on duty and small snack/ice cream van - perfect location and views.
Overall we were slightly dissapointed with this Parkdean site, it just didn't tick all the boxes. Would not return here and would recomend anyone else to go a bit further south and head to Sea Acres which was a wonderful quiet site with stunning views we visited in 2011 and 2012.

We have just returned home yesterday from a holiday at this park with our family . We booked one of the brand new caravans that were advertised as sleeping 4-6 people for myself , my husband and our daughter , son in law and 2 grandchildren aged 12 years and 6 years old.
We also booked one of the three bungalows on the site for our son and daughter-in-law and our other two grandchildren ages 6 and 4 years old .

The caravan was very modern but extremely cramped and claustrophobic for a family of six unless they were 2 adults and 2 children . It also wasn't very clean ! The previous occupants had left a washing up bowl in the cupboard that was greasy . The space between the fridge and the sink unit was quite frankly disgusting and the cutlery drawer was also dirty . However, I do not believe that it was just the previous occupants that left it in this manner ! Come on Hoseasons !! Do you employ people and pay them enough to clean the caravans between rentals ??!!
This caravan should be advertised as sleeps 4 !! -Disgraceful that they are charging what they do when there is not enough space for 6 people to fit comfortably and be able to find space to unpack their clothes !!
It made our holiday rather stressful ! We used to go camping in a tent and understood that we would have to leave some of our stuff in the car boot , but that used to cost us £15 a night !
Did NOT expect to have to do this in a caravan that cost so much and was mis -advertised as sleeps 4-6 !

We tried to upgrade to a larger caravan but the site was full .

On the other side in the bungalow , my son and his family had plenty of space . The bungalow is advertised as sleeps 4 . 2 bedrooms very large , large bathroom and living area but no sofa bed ! We could've swapped around if there had been a sofa bed ?? However not everyone would have this option anyway if they were travelling as one family !
The bungalow was a little outdated , and in the bathroom there were 2 ceramic wall tiles that had fallen off of the wall and had been placed against the wall on the floor by goodness knows what previous occupant ?! The tiles above it were loose and bowing outwards and one fell off when I touched it !! ...Not very safe in a bathroom and slippery floors with children running around !! The tiles had sharp edges ! I reported to reception and they sent someone to re-fix the tiles.

The shop staff were lovely , and the staff in the clubhouse were also but if you want to eat there get there early it gets busy .
Lovely beach for the children but very limited for places to eat outside of the park . There is a pub just before the beach , The St Pirans . Lovely staff but unless you get there really early you won't get a choice on the menu or a table ! We went on the Sunday only to be told this is the choice ...we ran out of food ! The second time were told that we were too late and there were no tables !

Our vote goes to the Treguth pub up the hill from the park. Lovely staff , lot's of history and the food is very good !
They always managed to fit us in and they weren't too worried about going over the 9pm food order limit !
We will definetly visit Holywell Bay ( the beach ) again . It is beautiful and the children loved it !

Sadly we won't be staying at the park again and that's purely because of the disappointment of arriving and finding that we had no space , 2 of the adults are over 6ft tall , the rest of us aren't that tall and we still couldn't fit or find space for our belongings !

My Wife and I have a yearly holiday here in a caravan which we've been doing since the kids were young;they're now married with their own kids but we still come back on our own. It's a lovely quiet park, close to the beach. You need to be a little careful that you get a fairly new 'van since some of the older ones are a bit tatty. There's a useful shop on site and there are some great pubs and restaurants nearby. The food in the on-site restaurant is ok. If you're lucky with the weather this is a great place to relax.

Room Tip: Try for a newish caravan away from the clubroom

went here for four days the caravan was ok, it was clean but shower was blocked, curtain rail broke and cupboard, when approaching reception they weren't very friendly which is a shame as the park is great I felt I was a burden to them for complaining but nearly spending £400 pounds to stay I expected to be treated better, the clubhouse was great the food and entertainment staff were great only thing I couldn't understand why paying for bingo tickets we had to pay a fee of 50p participation, the kids loved the play areas, arcade and swimming pool, had a lovely four days but reception staff could benefit from a customer care course

Room Tip: don't complain!!

The beautiful weather helped but would definitely stay here again. Plus points were:
Super cheap with the Sun holiday tokens
Friendly staff.
Lovely pool area with a fun slide.
Beautiful beach nearby.
Well priced shop.
Clean caravan with hot power shower
Only downside the single mattresses were uncomfortably hard.

stayed on the campsite on the back of the static caravan site.
We have been on this site a few times and always seem to have a good time, maybe more because of the great location near one of the most beautiful beaches in Cornwall and close to Newquay and Perranporth then the site itself.

Positives
Quick check in and we could move on the pitch before 12 O'clock.
Friendly staff
Most pitches good size and well drained.
Kids always seem to enjoy Sid and Lizzie entertainment.
Pool nice and warm
Negatives
Shower/toilet block becoming a bit dated.
Every year there seem to be some anti social families with social behaviour problems causing a bit of an atmosphere, and the camp warden should be stricter.

Arrived hour and a half early and our caravan was ready, so we could get key etc and unpack.
Park itself is immaculate, caravan had 3 bedrooms and was very clean. surroundings are amazing, the beach is about a 10 minute walk, and is beautifully breath taking..with a pub on the entrance to the beach, and the beach itself has a snack bar. The location of the park is very central, we travelled from here to Bude ( north Cornwall) in about one hour, and St Michaels mount in 3/4 hour ( which is a must see). We took a 3 year old and a 15 and 16 year old. our older kids were occupied on the evenings that we were on site with amusements, and sports court etc, and our 3 year old was occupied with the play areas. The pool is lovely, with a fab kiddies pool. They have a no camera or videoing policy by the pool area which I find excellent. The shop has the essentials you need but isn't open late enough....Only downside is that there is no signal on site, unless you walk back up to the entrance, but didn't really miss not having the use of a phone.. We cannot wait to go back.
