“A Home from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

I've stayed here twice, once in 2007 and in mid-August 2012. The location, a short walk from Porth Beach with easy access to the pleasant headland walk, is excellent. The glorious seaview from the terrace is best enjoyed with a glass of wine. The rooms are clean and comfortable with a welcome hospitality tray. Sue and her staff could not have been more helpful or accommodating. The breakfast is excellent; I loved the traditional British cooked breakfast and the smoked haddock and poached eggs were perfectly done. Enjoy!

We stayed here for one night with some friends, we have stayed in various places in Newquay, but this is me of the best it isn't over priced for its location. The lady who owns it is very nice and friendly, the rooms were very clean we had one of the rooms with a balcony amazing view. Good selection of toiletries provided. Breakfast was very good the guy serving was polite and friendly, breakfast was very good with huge selection on their menu. There is also a bar and a snack menu. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: The ones with the balcony have the views

We stayed in the week before run to the sun. Whilst the weather wasn't amazing, the hotel was excellent and we really were looked after by Sue & Nathan. Any request was easily accommodated and responded to quickly.
Its a great location with Porth Beach within minutes and Newquay town centre a 15 minute walk.
We're definitely planning to return.

Great location magnificent views from room with balcony and from hotel. Nice room, comfy bed and very clean. Nice beakfast freshly cooked and well presented.Staff and owner very friendly and helpful. However visit was marred by abusive behaviour of German guest who was upset by wi fi not working-pathetic.He was dealt with properly and it did not spoil our stay. Would definitely stay here again.

The queen's jubilee made me and a couple of friends go down south. We liked the place where we lived. The photos make it look a lot better, however, we were not disappointed. The place is run by helpful and polite staff members. Its location is a little far off, however, away from the city's hustle-bustle. We did pay a very high price compared to the place. Nevertheless, it may be because of the long weekend.

The breakfast was pretty good as well. We had a pleasant stay and would come back!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2012

Having found a few days off over Easter, I struggled to find accommodation at any of our usual Newquay 'Haunts'. I saw The Windward on the web and it looked comfortable and reasonably priced so I booked a family room for my wife and I, plus our seven year old.
The hotel is in a lovely situation and is very convenient for both Newquay and Padstow, plus all the other little coves and villages in between, (try The Falcon at St.Mawgan if you like real beer and a bite to eat). It also has the nice Porth beach opposite and a couple of pubs nearby, although they aren't 'child friendly'.
The room we were given was small, but adequate as a double, however, with the second bed (fold up) in place, it was difficult to move around and almost impossible to get in the bathroom. I have to say that for the price we paid, I would expect a decent sized room with a real second bed. The bathroom itself was also quite small, but perfectly functional and the shower (no bath) was fine, with hot water and a good flow at all times.
Breakfast was as one would expect and was well served by the attentive staff, although the service times were a bit outdated. 8.30 to 9.30 is fine for me, but is probably a bit restrictive for modern tastes.
Sadly the hotel doesn't open the restaurant for evening dining, so the place didn't have any 'buzz' in the evening and although the small bar was available, even though the hotel was full, we were the only customers. Maybe it's busier in the summer when the balcony area would be very pleasant in the evening I imagine . The owner was a pleasant lady who was happy to sit and chat, but most of the guests were out or watching TV in their rooms.
I think, on reflection, we would re-visit The Windward, but would ensure we booked early and had one of the larger rooms, I'm sure that the balcony rooms would provide a better experience.

Room Tip: The balcony rooms at the front of the hotel are larger and have a lovely view.

We stayed here for 2 nights in the sea-view room with balcony and can highly reccommend it. The views overlooking Porth bay were phenomenal and the balcony was served by a large table and chairs.
The hotel staff, mainly the son of the proprietor were extremely helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble.
If we ever visited Newquay in the future we would not hesitate in booking this hotel again.
