“Cool - but not so cool you won't enjoy it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

The Watergate Bay Hotel “does it” for us. It has a great location, is “cool” without being pretentious and has super service. Although young, the staff are skilled and efficient without being obtrusive, such an important part of any hotel stay.

The rooms are smart and modern and if you have a sea view (recommended) its as good as anywhere in the world.

In 2012 the opened a lovely new swimming pool and during a cold January visit we used it often and were usually the only two in there. This was complimented by an outside hot tub overlooking the beach – very bracing.

Food at the hotel is superb, we over ate another memorable dinner and also over indulged at breakfast – Watergate bay you have us hooked!
I always comment on the beer and the hotel’s beer outdoes many pubs – superb Skinners heligan honey in this case. My only complaint is that they charge hotel priced £3.90/pint and £6+ for a glass of wine. I suppose they’re worth it!!!

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea view. Rooms in the annexe have no view except the car park.

We have stayed at this hotel before and it is wonderful. This week we took time out for a Spa day and just wanted to say how amazing the treatments are. Very relaxing and yummy products (all their own). Worked well with my sensitive skin.

A massive thanks to Kaja for my scrub/wrap/facial etc and Suzi for my friens massage. WONDERFUL and a credit to the hotel!!

Loved lunch too!

Elizabeth, Wadebridge

Room Tip: Didnt stay this time but top floor room overlooking beach is incredible.

Having been lucky enough to lucnh at 15, the beach hut and the hotel all in one trip last year, I think the hotel may just offer the most. you can turn up in your best clothes and pretend to be a superstar or you can walk in off the beach with the dog. either way you will be treated to superb food, unbeatable service and views that you cannot begin to describe. top marks

Spent a weekend at Watergate Bay. Arrived at lunchtime on the Saturday and requested an early check in but the reception staff were unable to accommodate this for us so we checked in at 3pm and then had some treatments in the Spa which we enjoyed even though they were quite expensive. We had dinner in the restaurant in the evening, The menu was fairly basic. Breakfast the following morning was ok but nothing special. We then had a walk along the coastal path and had lunch in the lounge and then had a swim and spent some time in the hot tub before we departed.
Watergate Bay is a buzzy place, lots of children and dogs. The staff are as helpful as they can be but seemed quite young and inexperienced generally

This was our second visit to the hotel and our first since the new spa was added in 2012. We are a family of 5 and we stayed in the coach house again, in one of the family suites. Lovely room again, with a 2nd bedroom for the kids. It was also lovely to be able to take our dog.
The Swim Club, which is the name for the new members club and spa is a great addition. I was particularly taken with the fantastically relaxed sofas, log fire and sea views from the sitting room. It's a great place to chill out and unwind with a book.
The food, as always, was absolutely fabulous and special attention is drawn to our lovely Liverpudlian Laura, although every single member of staff cares for you in a relaxed and 'can do' manner.
A previous comment is probably correct in observing that there is a fine line between a good hotel and a great hotel. Watergate Bay is very nearly across that line and its only small changes that are needed to make it great. My additions to their comments are that with hard floors in rooms, a 'great' hotel would have provided bedroom slippers to give comfort and also hotels at this level would be expected to provide a box of tissues in the room. Other than this, I don't think I'd change anything.
If you're reading this hotel management, thank you for a lovely stay. We'll be back again as soon as we can!

We were in Cornwall on a day trip and we'd heard good news about the place, so decided we'd see if the restaurant/bar was free for lunch. We couldn't have been made more welcome with relaxed professional staff who realised our twin boys were rapidly reaching the hunger point of no return, and went out of their way to turn the order around double quick.

The food was super, the burger (I know a safe choice) will not be forgotten for all the right reasons and when the bill arrived it was very good value. We will definitely return and the team really is a credit to the obviously excellent facilities.

A 10 out of 10.

While the snow fell in Bristol we went for a 2 night D, B &B weekend break with our children (5 and 3). Its the fifth time we have been and we were delighted again. We stayed in a 'Best Family Suite' in the coach house (room 73) which had a seperate bedroom with bunks and a single bed (plus TV / DVD) for the children. Big main bedroom and good bathroom. No views but that's fine in January. The organised kids tea, pool, childrens' play room and positive attitude towards families make it a real pleasure to stay here and our children absolutely love it. The amazing views and beach are icing on the cake.
Although a top quality place it has the relaxed charm of a beachhouse and sandy foot prints on the carpet, children and dogs are all part of it. We hope to go again this year.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Coach House have no views but great for families. Worth checking the website regula...
