“Fantastic view and a great property”

We arrived at the property on time and had no issues getting the keys and letting ourselves in. First impressions were very good. The property seemed basic but contained everything that we needed and was very clean.

Kitchen - I was a litttle concerned from previous reviews about the size of the fridge/freezer especially as we had ordered our shopping to be delivered to the apartment after we arrived. However, although the fridge and freezer are on the small side, we fitted in the food we needed too. The rest of the kitchen was exactly what we needed.

Living Room - Good size containing a t.v, 2-3 seater settee, table and chairs, bucket seat and a bean bag. The only issue here was that we didn't find the settee or bucket seat comfortable at all (although this could be personal preference). However, it didn't affect our holiday as the weather was good so we spent most of the time sat out on the balcony. The table also had 6 chairs which wasn't really needed as the apartment only sleeps 4. I would have gone for a smaller table with 4 chairs and and updated the seating and the room would be perfect.

Balcony - Fanastic, Views were great and the balcony was a good size with access via steps down to the swimming pool. We had outdoor furniture provided and spent most of our evenings, glass in hand, relaxing looking at the view.

Main Bedroom - Perfect bedroom with plenty of storage and the large window at the end of the bed stretching out across the whole wall which overlooked the swimming pool and fistral beach. Comfortable bed too, we could tell a matress topper had been used.

Bedroom 2 - This was at the front of the property and was used by my 2 sons (15 and 10). The room was much larger than we expected and the kids had plenty of room. Only downside were the mattresses which you could feel the springs through. New mattresses or mattress toppers on these too would have this issue solved.

Bathroom - What can I say, it's a bathroom and was clean and contained everything I would expect in a bathroom.

Swimming Pool - The pool was great. There is a code to get into the pool area which was supplied in the property. The pool was heated and a good size and depth and kept the kids busy throughout our stay. The pool was open from 9.00am and was covered over when not in use. If you wanted to use the pool you just rolled the cover off and then put it back on when you were finished. There were plenty of chairs and loungers if you wished to spend time at the pool.

Fistral Beach - Was a 5 minute walk from the apartment and a great place to enjoy the beach or the sea.

In general, it was a great place to stay and if the small issues mentioned previously are sorted I would have no hesitation in booking it again. The compex itself is lovely and quiet and everyone staying there (owners and guests) were all very polite and friendly. The location is perfect, 5 mins walk to the beach and 20 mins into Newquay centre.

“Great view, but lacklustre property for the money”

Teething problems getting in. Property Manager was unavailable, and all calls went to answerphone. Called company who sorted out problems. Facilities basic. There is definitely a swimming pool. It is unheated and covered up, but it’s there. However, if we had wanted to brave the elements and use it, we couldn’t have accessed it because it has a combination lock on the gate, and we weren’t given the number.
In fact, there was no Welcome Pack, or even a list of ‘How to’s’ made available.
There is no dishwasher as advertised on here. In fact, you don't even get a J-cloth. Some essential cutlery missing.
It doesn’t really have “fridge, freezer”, implying two appliances. It has a small under-counter fridge with an icebox.
The apartment seemed okay otherwise. It was basic, and had a funky smell, but we’d cope.
Then came bedtime. The beds in both rooms are terrible. Thin mattresses with springs you can feel when you lie down, (despite assurances in the Visitors Book that the double bed now had a mattress topper added).
Also, the duvets were the thinnest you could buy - possibly 4.5 tog at best. That wouldn’t have been so much of a problem if the place was warm, but unfortunately, no matter how many times we tried to increase the temperature on the thermostat, the boiler stubbornly refused to kick in. Never mind, at least we had the living room heater. Except that that doesn’t work properly either. It is a fan heater with two heat settings. When you turn it on, it blows warm air for about ten seconds, then the thermostat switches it off again. I think it must have been set as low as is possible, or is faulty. The weather was cold and windy for most of the week, and the apartment never rose above 14-16 degrees.

In summary, the place could have been better, and needs some tweaking. I hope the faulty boiler and heater are fixed for anyone else who may visit. I guess we were just unlucky. If the weather had been better, we may not have even noticed the faults. We weren’t expecting The Ritz, but the apartment was reasonably expensive, and overall seems to have been kitted out at Argos. I have stayed in better-equipped caravans, and think it was expensive for what you get. I just don’t think this apartment lives up to the image that Blue Chip is trying to portray.
