Owner description: From the local Cornish coast to the dazzling beauty of the Tropical Reef, Newquay Blue Reef aquarium has an exciting world of underwater adventure waiting to be discovered. More than 40 innovative displays vividly bring to life the sights, sounds and smells of the sea, whilst regular feeding displays, rock-pool workshops and informative talks provide a fun and fascinating day out. Visitors can enjoy the closest of undersea encounters with amazing aquatic life including seahorses, giant octopus, pulsating Jellyfish and fierce Piranha. At the aquariums heart is a spectacular coral reef display housed within a 250,000 litre ocean tank - home to exotic tropical species like black tip reef sharks and Omiros the rescued loggerhead turtle. As well as hundreds of brightly-coloured reef fish and a huge Southern Stingray. Enjoy the sheer beauty of the display by taking a journey through its very own underwater tunnel, as well as through a number of viewing portholes, a floor to ceiling window and even enjoy close encounters from the surface - where Omiros often likes to pop up to say hello! Situated on Towan Promenade in the heart of Newquay, Blue Reef Aquarium not only offers a beach on its doorstep but also an amazing experience, whatever the weather!

“Run of the mill Aquarium..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

My friends & I, like a lot of people probably, decided to visit the aquarium on a rainy day. The entrance fee was around £10 for an adult, which to be honest, I felt was a tiny bit steep for the size of the aquarium. It has all the things you'd expect smaller fish wise, but it's lacking anything bigger. There were some nice displays and interesting parts, but it is over quite quickly so don't plan on spending hours there.

Small but nice, only takes an hour to go round but you get a good view of the fish, staff very friendly , don't expect to spend all day there it's not massive but nice way to fill a rainy morning

“Enjoyable”

Really enjoyed this place. Much better than the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. Lots to see. My youngest enjoyed seeing all the different fish.

“Best Aquarium I've been to”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

I often find places like this disappointing but this aquarium is definitely worth a visit. There are lots of interesting things to see and everything is on a larger scale than the average aquarium

“Great day out, with family or friends.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

I live nearby, but i don't visit Newquay often. Me and my friend went in August. It was a really hot and busy sunny summers day and Blue Reef was quite busy, not packed though, which was good.

Friendly staff, lots of things to see and look at. A nice day out. In a tourist area.
