“Beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

We stayed here whilst visiting Padstow, the views from the hotel were beautiful, we had a window table at breakfast and watched the surfers. The staff were very friendly and had a good sense of humour, we will return again to stay longer

I was there with a coachload of fellow singers for the weekend. I think as a single person I had the best room of all - an enormous, second floor family room with a king sized double and twin single beds! I could even see a bit of the sea from the very large windows, although I imagine it could be noisy as it also overlooked the children's play area. Unlike another reviewer here, I approve of their energy-saving lightbulbs, which do get brighter, given time, and the bathroom was clean and adequate, though needs somewhere to put one's stuff! Would have liked a clock radio, as the radio on the tv means having its bright light on all the time, which is not good for night time listening. The buffet breakfast was excellent, as was the one evening meal we had and all service was good, particularly a nice young Glaswegan waiter called Nick. It is a hike into the town, which is only worth doing if you want cheap, unhealthy food, amusement arcades and nasty shops but there is a cheap taxi service. Our one packed lunch was very uninspired. A reasonable hotel for a beach holiday or for exploring elsewhere.

I stayed 2 nights as my daughter got married there and I have to say it was a lovely venue and the staff were very friendly. Very clean rooms well stocked. Plenty of hot water and loads of towels and a dressing gown too. They transformed the dining room for the wedding and the drinks and canapes were very good as were the staff who were extremely helpful and attentively. Only slight moan the rooms were very hot. I was looking after grandchildren and they loved the soft play area and outside pirate ship, but unfortunately didn't get chance to try the pool!

Room Tip: It would have been nicer with a view of the sea

You can forgive the Esplanade it's slightly tired rooms (ours anyway) and enjoy the stunning view. The room was underlit (energy saving bulbs) with nowhere for M to put on makeup except for sitting in the windowsill during the day.Bathroom cramped and shower rather limp!
The restaurant evening food was a small but well cooked menu, very good. The breakfast was OK but understaffed when we were there. The staff generally were friendly and helpful throughout. We were intending to stay in the nearby Bay Hotel but it was full so being the "sister hotel" we were booked into the Esplanade which is I imagine the second choice.

Room Tip: Try fote top floor balcony rooms

Stayed here over the 1999 / 2000 Millennium celebrations, everything was great about the hotel especially as the world famous Fistral Beach is just outside.
The only down side was that it is quite a hike if you want to go into town or to visit another of Newquay`s fabulous beaches.

Please ignore where it states that it was 2011 when we visited this hotel, it was over the Millennium.

We had a great ocean view! The hotel is geared to family vacations. The surf school is right beside the hotel. Great food on the beach hut restaurant! If you want to surf this is a great economical way of having the surf, beach and sunsets local to your hotel room. Make sure you have a second floor room to get a view.
Breakfast is a bit bland but has the basics. Hotel lunches were not that great so might be best to find alternative food if you want something healthier.
Can be a bit noisy at times but it's geared for family and kids. It's all about the location, location location!

Stayed here for 2 nights in one of the best rooms as we were celebrating! The room was lovely and clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was really nice, modern fittings and a lovely power shower! Water was always hot no matter when we used the shower. And having a bath whilst looking at the beach was amazing! Pool was lovely and great for our 20 month old! Although the second afternoon we went down we had to share it with children having swimming lessons and their parents looking at us as if we were interrupting their child's time, not impressed! Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Dinner menu slightly limited but tasty also. We would return!
