“Great value and fantastic hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Two friends and I opted for a long weekend surfing so immediately thought of Newquay as our ideal destination. After a search we agreed on Mor Surf Lodge, primarily because of cost and location.

I know there are a few conflicting views on here but please don't expect a Rolls Royce on a shoe string budget!

The good bits:
1. Staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and just all-round nice folk. Genuinely could not have done any more for us. They were awesome!
2. The location was near enough to town to walk to the mainstream beaches and for food / a few beers but far enough to not be disturbed by the mass exodus from clubs.
3. Rooms were clean & tidy with an ensuite.
4. Great amenities and they were readily available at competitive prices (bar, pool table, TV, surf hire etc.)
5. Easy check-in / check-out processes.

Couple of additional points:
1. There are a couple of sets of moderately steep stairs in place so if you have mobility issues you might want to ask for a room as low to the ground as possible.
2. The rooms are relatively basic, but they do however contain ALL of the essentials. We found that we hardly spent much time in the rooms anyway as we were out surfing / exploring etc. so for us it was perfect.

Overall:
I would recommend Mor Surf Lodge to small groups as an ideal place to crash for a surfing / activity based stay. I cannot do justice in describing how friendly and accommodating all of the staff were, they really were fantastic. No doubt we will be back to Newquay surfing again next season and we will definitely be looking to stay again.

MOR lodge is a located at the top of Newquay with easy access to all the beaches and town centre. Was a great place to stay we were a smallish group of friends on a weekend away but the guys there were helpful and very welcoming. They couldn't have done more to help us with good tips on where to eat and sorting us out with surfing. Room was clean and checking in and out was easy. A great weekend away!

MOR lodge, this hostel was a great place to stay with my friends, we went as a group of four two guys and two girls... we had seperate rooms and the room my mate and I stayed in was great , the bathroom was big and the room was clean and well presented.. I did feel sorry for the boys as their bathroom was a little small!! but they are guys so they dont care about that sort of thing. Anyhooo the place overall was very nice, good bar and games room. complimentary breakfast was just like any other hostel you would stay in. The walk into town took about 5 minutes maximum after pre drinks.. it was also easy to find.. Staff were friendly and helpful.. I will definitely be going back to MOR lodge again..Cheers all

Room Tip: Rooms at the back seemed to have bigger bathrooms I think!!

Stayed in a private double room, totally bare and tiny. Noise and shouting all night. On check out we were aggressively accused for incidents such as noise and late The bed resembled a cheap camp bed not fit for purpose and heavily damaged when we arrived. On check out they tried to charge us for a new double bed and we ended up having to pay half the cost. An absolute scam.

Thanks for your response. I was surprised to receive such a negative review and made enquiries to find out what went wrong. We certainly don't look to charge our guests for anything other than a comfortable night's sleep. The duty manager's notes state that your partner agreed that you'd broken the bed during the course of your night's stay. It's extremely regrettable that there was a disagreement thereafter, but I understand everything was resolved in the morning you checked out.

We are no surfers and were just some group of tourists who had stayed in MOR for a stopover in Newquay. MOR is located in the central town of Newquay and can be easily located as its on the main road itself. We didnt read any reviews about the lodge while booking, but definitely had expected more of it. The rooms were too small for four of us to even move around. The bunk beds were also very squeaky, I thought the bed would come down every time I turned. The bathroom was also too tiny. The good part about the stay was that we had got en-suite rooms. They did have breakfast but just cereals and toast :( The lodge does not have its own parking space but there is an over night parking available just outside the lodge.

I stayed here for a weekend with a group of freinds and soon as we arrived the staff were friendly the rooms were great. We managed to have a sea view which was well worth the trip and even though there is an en-suite there are also main bathrooms on each floor so you dont all have to queue getting ready.
For parking there is a long stay car park just a walk round the corner and is completey safe and reasonably priced allowing you to park your car without having to worry when the ticket runs out.
The lodge's location is ideal as it is not to close to the bars and nightlife in the centre to be disturbed in the night but at the same time your in walking distance to all newquay has to offer from its fabulous beaches to the town centre and more.
On the saturday they provided live acoustic music and it was only 6-8pm which meant you could still enjoy an evening out after.
I would highly recommend this hostel to everyone as it provides all the basics you need to allow you to explore all Newquay has to offer and recharge your batteries for the next day.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front offer great views of the town and bay.

I stayed here for 5 days and had a great stay! Everyone that works there is really friendly and helpful. I didnt know about the £30 cash deposit apon arrival because i didnt read my email which actually it clearly states, but they were really nice and let me into my into my room so i could pop into town to get some cash, so remember your deposits!

There were some stag and hen dos going on at the weekend, which wasnt a surprise as thats what Newquays famous for. The night porter on was cool and sorted it out when one of them was a bit rowdy. he reassured me that theres always someone on if we need them, so that made me feel safe.

Very clean and tidyed.
Town is a 5 min walk away.
parking was a bit annoying because theres none on site, but its a small town so it didnt feel right taking the residents parking. theres a car park opposite and one down the road thats cheaper, soo all goooood!
oh and the Pizza is AMAZING! so make sure you get one. And drinks are so cheap, great place for pre drinks.

Room Tip: Try and get one with a sea view :)
