“Beautiful Seafood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

After having been in Newquay for four days and eating some pretty uninspiring food I was desperate for a bit of good seafood. Lakeside Cafe did not dissapoint. The normal menu itself is quite small, but the specials board is very extensive. The waitress explained that the restaurant likes to keep its menu interesting and seasonal by having plenty of specials that change regularly. We chose salt and pepper squid and sardines in salsa verde to start, followed by two enormous and delicious portions of moules mariniere with crabs' claws, finally we shared a rhubarb pannacotta. All the food was excellent, although the portion size of the main was far too much for us. To drink, we shared a bottle of Chilean white, which was well priced and very tasty. The atmosphere of the place was very relaxing with really friendly staff, who seemed passionate about the restaurant, and a lovely view of the lake. If you're visiting Newquay and want a memorable meal then give it a go!

“10 minute walk from the Zoo, fantastic food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

A great little restaurant by the boating lake in Newquay. We drove past it on the way to the zoo and following good reviews on Tripadvisor we walked over to the restaurant following our morning there. As you can return to the zoo, no reason to just choose the zoo cafe (although it did look nice). We arrived at 1.45pm and the place was busy, so you should book for lunch, but the waitress said return in 10 minutes and when we did a table was free for us. We had two small children and a baby in highchair and was made to feel welcome. The service was excellent. The lunch menu has a range of half a dozen main dishes and open sandwiches. The fishcakes and the Brie open sandwich were excellent. Generous portions as well. The kids had fish and chips which again were excellently done and generous. Add in a beer, coffees and fruit juice for the kids and it came to around £35. Just outside are some real ice creams with cones which we had for pudding by the lake. All in all a very pleasant meal and can't recommend enough.

“Amazing food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

Amazing food, good service, lovely setting!!! This was my 2nd visit and even better than the 1st. Decided on Pan Fried Pigeon breast with warm bacon salad for starters followed by Roast Belly Pork with apple sauce. The Pigeon was cooked to perfection the whole dish topped with a softly fried egg. If i had realised what a plateful this was i would not have ordered a mains just asked for the starter to be a wee bit bigger to make into a mains. However if i had done that i would have missed out on the BEST Belly Pork i have ever eaten. Again cooked to perfection it just melted in the mouth and the crispiest crackling ever! Every other dish served to the rest of the table was perfectly cooked and very tasty. When i visit Newquay again will def return there for another exciting experience.
