“Great location and lovely views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013 via mobile

We stayed for a weekend. Due to booking late we had to move rooms. On the first night we had Room 1 and the second night we had room 14. Both had sea views and each were really nice rooms.
Our only complaint was we were not informed of building works or told we would not be able to use the balcony ( I would have to also say we paid £150 for room 1 and £130 for room 14. Room 14 was a much nicer room and don't think room 1 was actually worth £150.)
So Overal would I stay there again .... Yes !! ( but would ask if there is any building works and will I have full use of the facilities )

Highly recommend the Old Coastguard Hotel at Mousehole. We visited the area and hadn't booked anywhere to stay, but the staff on reception were incredibly obliging, putting up Z-beds for the children etc.
A very comfortable stay, the room was tastefully furnished, tea and coffee with proper milk. Lovely views along the harbour.
Dinner was tasty, with an adventurous fish themed menu (it would have been sacrilege to eat anything else!!).
We had to leave early the next morning, before breakfast was served, but the hotel provided a delicious breakfast basket in our room, with croissants, muesli, juice and cereal bars. fruit and local preserves completed this delicious start to our day.
All in all, our stay at the Old Coastguard was highly recommended.I would be more than happy to go back to Mousehole and the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel have a sea view, but the hotel was not noisy at all.

My wife and I chose to stay here to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary following a review in the Daily Telegraph and we were not disappointed. The room was very comfortable with views over the sea and harbour. Plenty of attention to detail in quality of beds, bedding, towels etc and nice local touches like Cornish Grown Tea ( quite delicious) The staff were really friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast included proper bread and home made jams and marmalade with a good selection of cooked breakfasts. Dinner had, as we suspected, a good selection of fish, beautifully cooked and well presented. I was slightly worried about early morning noise from the seagulls but it seems management have had a word with them as they did not disturb our sleep. Nothing but praise for all concerned including the seagulls!

Room Tip: We had room 6 ( St Clements) at the top of the house. Worth the climb up the stairs

I have stayed in the group's other 2 hotels at Zennor and Felin Fach so was looking forward to a Sunday night "sleepover" to celebrate my birthday. In the event it was the most enjoyable hotel stay I have ever had!
The fantastic value short break included coffee on arrival, Sunday lunch, Sunday supper, room and breakfast. The room was decorated in their usual simple rustic style with all the necessary facilities including tea and coffee, modern shower/wet room, supremely comfortable bed and balcony overlooking the glorious bay and St Michaels Mount.
The welcome and service throughout were far and away the best we have received anywhere. Enthusiastic, friendly, really helpful, professional, well trained - what more can I say?
The food was not haut cuisine or self satisfied Michelin star, but fantastically tasty and satisfying with some really original and clever touches, The sort of food you wish your mother had been able to cook! There was a really good selection of well chosen wines by the glass, carafe or bottle at a reasonable hotel price - along with a good range of local beers and a killer scrumpy cider.
To crown off a wonderful experience, the sun made its first appearance of the year and an unexpected but very good modern jazz duo suddenly appeared to round off the lunch. We will be back - you can count on it!

We only spent a night here on our tour of Cornwall, but were very impressed with the laid back atmosphere and fab sea views. the hotel is in the process of being refurbished but the disturbance to guests is minimal. We didn't eat supper at the hotel as we went to the Minnack theatre for a production of the Arabian nights, which was also excellent. The kitchen packed us off with a delicious picnic, which included hot soup and sausage rolls, picnic blankets etc ( the weather forecast was not great!).
There is also some fab artwork on the walls from local artists, most of which is for sale.
I preferred this hotel to it's sister the Gurnards's head, as we had larger room and a better view and a better breakfast!

Room Tip: A sea view and away from the kitchen extractor fan!

Love the location and had a great view from the room. I liked the shabby chic look of the room (where can I get one of those blankets?) and the bathroom was great. The interconnecting room was better than we were expecting for the children.
Loved having no tv in the room-the kids were happy enough watching boats coming and going!
Food excellent both for dinner and breakfast, and staff v v helpful.
One small gripe - it wasn't particularly hot weather when we stayed but would have liked the windows open. However, the kitchen extraction unit was right outside the window and smelly. (A fan was provided in the room).
That's the reason for 4 not 5 stars

Room Tip: We had room6 great for the family.

Lovely olde worlde charm. This was my first trip back to Cornwall in over 40 years, and having been born not far from Mousehole it was a very sentimental journey. The Coastguard was everything we hoped it would be - lovely friendly service from all the staff, very comfortable room, and delicious meals. Our room (no. 7) had a beautiful view over Mounts Bay and down to Mousehole Harbour. There is a lovely comfortable lounge area to sit and relax with a wine after a hard day's touring. It looks straight out over the gardens to the Bay and beyond. The hotel is just a short walk from the charming Mousehole Harbour and village, and conveniently situated for trips to many scenic sights in the area.

Room Tip: Room 7 has a lovely view over Mousehole village and harbour.
